SONG OF THE DAY: Vato Gonzalez “Triplets Riddim”

There are a few things we definitely know about Dirty House producer Vato Gonzalez.? Even though his sound changes with each release, his playful sense of humor is a constant. Just listen to his last few tracks (“Cats Are Evil,” “Body Harder,” “Army of Bastards”) and you can definitely tell they come from the same twisted mind.? Vato also loves his “Riddim” – whether it’s Badman, Sushi, Volfied or the new Triplets.? If you dissect the track, you can hear elements seemingly inspired by the big room hits of Quintino, Martin Garrix, and Showtek, but in Vato’s hands they are melded together for something even bigger than the sum of their parts.? The computer voice saying “Are You Ready” just adds the bit of quirk you would expect from him.? All the big guys are already supporting this track and it is definitely easy to hear why.?

SONG OF THE DAY: Ray Roc – “Disco Life” EP

Sometimes you need to zag when everyone is zigging.? As most of the EDM world is either on a ’90s kick or banging out aggressive electro, Ray Roc goes back to his Latino roots by blending classic disco, groovy house, and a bit of Spanish flair for the truly fresh-sounding “Disco Life” EP.? The two tracks have that long-lost Hed Kandi vibe that just makes you want to dance with a sexy groove, funky bassline, and without any of those long dropouts that kill the energy.? “Disco Life” is straight-up disco house with a bit of a cut-up vibe and Spanish lyrics that make you feel like you are dancing poolside out on a tropical island.? The B-side “Shine On” is a bit more pumping, with a Crazibiza/Sharp Boys bouncy house groove and a touch of electro, while keeping the disco feel firmly in place. It’s more of a primetime record that will build energy towards the peak of the night.?? The EP includes both tracks and remixes and will definitely put a smile on any house music lover’s face.

SONG OF THE DAY: Laidback Luke & Peking Duk – “Mufasa”

Dutchman Laidback Luke is back with another really strong collaboration.? His track/perfume commercial with Martin Solveig is “blow”-ing up everywhere, and his new single “Mufasa” is already coming out.?? Teaming with Aussie hipsters Peking Duk (the duo behind the WMC anthem “Just the Way You Are”), they constructed a massively aggressive tribal electro track complete with a chant, jump-up vibe, and a sense of darkness which fits perfectly.? You can definitely hear how hardstyle is influencing the big room guys as the jump-up beat is gradually entering their tracks.? The track also has a similar feel to the classic Oscar G & Ralph Falcon record “Dark Beat,” making me think it might be time for someone to mash these two tracks together and add Oba Frank Lords vocals over “Mufasa?” ?As good as the “Dark Mufasa Beat” may sound, on its own “Mufasa” will be a track DJs reach for to bring a primal vibe to their sets.? The cartoon video is quite cute as well, lightening things up with a comic edge and showing that music truly is the universal language.
