SONG OF THE DAY: Stonebridge, Luv Gunz, & Koko Laroo – You Can Have It All

Classy house. With this rebirth of classic house music, the new generation of producers can easily be sorted between two groups – the ones regurgitating older sounds and the ones who are creating new music inspired by classic vibes. Though there are also the legendary producers like Todd Terry and Stonebridge who are unleashing music which is true to their roots yet modern and inspired for 2014. “You Can Have It All” is a modern take on classic house. Inspired by the vocalist from Cole Plante’s “Lie To Me,” Koko Laroo, the original Stonebridge mix is sexy, vibey house with elements of electro and progressive fused to give it a modern flavor. Singer Koko Laroo sounds great and continues to show that her voice and songwriting are perfect for any genre or style of dance music (check out “Lie to Me” and her track with Richard Dinsdale, “Stars in the Sky”). The Luv Gunz take it a little more progressive and pretty, with a stronger focus on the vocals. Static Revenger serves up a classic ball anthem with an Alcatraz-flavor sharpened with modern fills that make it sound fresh. Please note, this is NOT a cover of the Eve Gallagher/Boy George classic.

SONG OF THE DAY: Wolfgang Gartner ft Bobby Saint – Unholy

By: DJ Ricky Sixx

To those who know Wolfgang Gartner for his massive electro tracks that dominated Beatport and clubs, “Unholy” might seem like a surprise.? When you realize that under his other name, Joel Youngman, he created funky and deep house tracks, it makes a bit more sense.?With progressive and future house, it seems the perfect time to let his two different personas crosspollinate. Unholy has elements of house with electro, and a touch of the big room festival sound of the moment.? What makes it special is bouncy fun (reminiscent of “Frenetica”) and the lyrics about being Unholy (reminiscent of “Hounds of Hell”).?It’s hard to determine if the gospel vibe vocals are being reverent or satirical.? I also wonder if Bobby Saint is a real singer or just a name he pulled from a Marvel comic?

SONG OF THE DAY: Scooter and Vassy – Today

Vassy possesses such a special and unique voice that she can sing the most commercial pop song (“We Are Young”) or big room club jam (“Bad” with David Guetta and Showtek) and you would still know it’s her. Can you guess what kind of song she did with German hard dance icons Scooter? Yep, pounding commercial dance pop- but she manages to hold the focus even when HP Baxxter is doing his trademark screaming rap. The thing is, I kept expecting the disco hook from Patrick Hernandez’s “Born to Be Alive” to come in for some reason. After a few minutes, it hit me that parts of the rap are taken from “Discohopping” by Klubbheads, which sampled that classic disco hook. The video’s borderline offensive take on feminist revenge ranks up there with t.A.T.u.’s “All About Us.” On a lighter note, if you want to hear Vassy rework another classic house records, check out “Hustlin” with Crazibiza and Dave Aude which reworks Crystal Waters’ “Gypsy Woman”
