SONG OF THE DAY: Korr-A – Fuck Me Like You Mean It

It’s so rare that a dance song captures the true essence of love in such a poetic and emotional way. What could be more romantic than beckoning a suitor to ravage you with purpose? Teaming up with producer Kizzo, the fiyacraka known as Korr-A draws the listener in with soft singing over pretty keyboards and progressive stadium house. The track quickly builds to the aggressive chorus over hard, banging (no pun intended) electro beats with a ’90s techno influence. I first heard the song while performing with her in Chicago and instantly liked the song for the lyrical message. Listening to the final production, what is impressive is how many layers of effects (like the staccato phrase repeats) and complexity flow so well. Even the different tones of voice that Korr-A sings with mesh perfectly. This truly is a brilliant pop song and the clean version substituting the word “touch” for “fuck” could bring this song all the way to pop radio. Club mixes by JoeySuki and Reid Stefan toughen the track up for big rooms while keeping the vocals as a strong focus. At the moment, the video is a lyric video, but after her strong videos for “Fiyacraka” and “Deck the Halls,” I have a feeling that there will be a pretty incredible music video dropping for this song really soon.

SONG OF THE DAY: Frida?Sundemo – A Million Years

Written by: Ben Norman

Missing Robyn?? Cold, and in need of some warmth?? Hot, and need some chill?? Well Frida Sundemo, along with her track “A Million Years,” have got you covered.? Channeling Robyn like she’s trying to take over, Frida belts and coos “A Million Years” over a lush and complex musical composition.? Lyrically, this is more “With Every Heartbeat” than “Konichiwa Bitches,” so it lacks Robyn’s tongue-in-cheek approach to some of her best tracks.? Don’t fret dear listeners, “A Million Years” takes musical cues from classic dance tracks in its complexity, but combines it with the staunch, anthemic sounds of Bastille and his friends.? The combination is a riveting journey that pushes hard, then lets you breathe here and there just to drive harder.? The end of the track is the culmination of a 2 minute build-up that feels as if it goes nowhere, but will have you breathlessly replaying over and over.? Curiously, her music sounds a lot more feminine than Frida looks in her video, but there is much to be said by not judging a book by its cover.? If “A Million Years” is any indication, we can expect amazing things from Ms. Sundemo.? Also check out her track “For You, Love” for more evidence of how awesome she is.

SONG OF THE DAY: Big Gigantic ft Cherub – The Night is Young

Boulder + Nashville = electro disco party anthem. That’s apparently the equation when the saxophone/drummer duo Big Gigantic teamed up with indie-funk-electro duo Cherub to create the title track for the recently-released album. Starting off with a bit of a Daft Punk-meets-Chromeo vibe, the funky disco groove builds and drops down before exploding into a big room electro track. A dubstep break midway shakes up the vibe nicely, while the effected vocals and instrumentation keep the vibe quite organic. This is the kind of track that would start the party at a dive bar or dance club with the infectious hooks and repeated lyrics, making it quite memorable. The video, shot in Mexico after a festival, captures the vibe perfectly. If you like “The Night is You,” be sure to go to their website for a free download of their album.
