SONG OF THE DAY: Zoe Badwi – “Torches”

Welcome to Pride 2013 – at least in Australia. ?Then again with the happy, bright, and fabulous Zoe Badwi on vocals, the dance?aficionados Denzal Park on the tables, can you really limit a track like this to one country? ?Badwi sings proud lyrics like “Fire up your torches/ Raise up all your voices”, sounding very similar to fellow Aussie and gay fave Kylie Minogue and her feel good track, “All the Lovers”. Thanks to Neon Records for throwing up samples of all the remixes, so you can choose JUST what will accompany your freak flag flying this year. ?We can’t choose between Mystery Blonde and the Coldplay-esque Marcus Santoro remix. ?Which is your favorite??

INTERVIEW: Bill Kelly – Winter Music Conference (2013)

James Brown was known as the “hardest-working man in show business,” and I would dub the title of “hardest working man in EDM” on Bill Kelly. The DJ/Record Pool Owner cofounded the Winter Music Conference in 1986 with Louis Possenti.? Nearly thirty years later, the annual pilgrimage to Miami Beach continues to be an essential stop for everyone in the dance music world, be they industry or punter.? Even with so many events going on concurrently, you will see Bill making the rounds everywhere? when he isn’t working diligently behind the scenes.

DJ Ron Slomowicz:? What was the inspiration to start WMC back in 1986?
Bill Kelly:? WMC was formed out of the need for a separate forum that would address the particular issues surrounding Dance Music. Up until that point there was only the NMS which had only one panel about dance music.

INTERVIEW: The Flexican (2013)

Occasionally in the stream of new music coming out, a track catches your attention and becomes what I affectionately call a WTF track.? Something so creative and out of the ordinary that it just shakes things up.?? If you haven’t heard of The Flexican yet – you soon will.? Coming from a hip-hop background, his mash of styles- electro, house, moombahton, and tech come together for a truly unique take.? Check out his remixes of Pitbull and Melanie Amaro for an idea of his vibe, and watch for his upcoming track with Major Lazer which should help launch him into the stratosphere.

DJ Ron Slomowicz:? Great job on the Stevie Wonder “Superstition” mix, have you thought about getting it revocalled for an official release?
The Flexican: Yes, when I heard the beat I thought it was too good to release as it was and I figured that if I added the vocals it would match and give a different vibe to the song. People know the song and can sing a lot to it.
