INTERVIEW: Tenishia (2013)

Maltese DJ/production duo Joven Grech and Cyprian Cassar, better known as Tenishia, have done a lot to put the island nation on the international scene.? Their debut artist album ‘Memories of a Dream’ continues to spawn singles as the duo tour the world.? Moving up to the Top 50 on the DJ Mag list is just one of the many signs that Tenishia are ones to watch.

RS: So you guys are from Malta, what is the scene like there?
Joven: Great, it was really good in the ’90s and it went down a little, but it is coming back up. We have a big fan base there and when we do a Tenishia concert, we have 1% of the population there.

RS: You guys produce all of your own events, didn?t you?
Joven: Yes of course, besides doing Tenishia in concert we do Tenishia events four times a year. We are currently working with some other promoters in the trance family on trance events in Malta.

REVIEW: Kerli – ‘Utopia’ EP

It’s honestly tough to accept a drastic change sometimes. The radical shift from the dark side to the bright and happy of dance that Estonian singer Kerli has accomplished in the last couple years has been rough. Rough, but oh so rewarding. While her darker days will always be missed, being graced with beautiful and emotional dance tracks, such as her latest hit “The Lucky Ones,” is nothing to scoff at. And one of Kerli’s biggest strengths is her unique and distinctive voice. It is breathy with a strong enunciation, a sort of pronounced way of singing her words. Think of Shirley Manson from Garbage, raise her up a little bit, and then throw her over some thick beats.

INTERVIEW: Hardwell (2013)

The big Dutch EDM producers pretty much fall into two categories ? trance or dirty.? Hardwell stands out as one who blurs the lines, combining the aggressive electro of the Dirty Dutch with the pretty, melodic feel of the trancers.??We spoke during Amsterdam Dance Event on the day of his massive Revealed label party – which ended up being one of the highlights on the entire week.

RS: Are you excited about your big event tonight?
Hardwell: I am really excited, it is the biggest Revealed night that we have had so far. 1,600 tickets sold out in 1 week, the hype has been buzzing on Twitter and Facebook for a month now. I expect a really good party tonight.
