SONG OF THE DAY: Bjorn Akesson – “Slam”

In this ADHD world we live in, a track can’t just be the same for six minutes. Swedish producer Akesson realizes this, and his new track “Slam” is almost a medley of vignettes with diverse sounds blending together. There’s Garrix-ish reverbed bass, a nod to the fly noises of classic Timo Maas, dirty glitch, and more- all over a pumping tech beat. If we were doing a late night infomercial, the tagline could be “it’s three songs in one.” Masterful production makes it a seamless flow and yet another big room monster from Bjorn. Be sure to check out the “Sand Theme” track they did with Aly and Fila as well.

SONG OF THE DAY: tyDi & Kerli – “Stardust” (FREE DOWNLOAD)

What a great holiday gift! Fans of tyDi and Kerli have enjoyed their previous two releases “Something About You” and “Glow in the Dark,” and while the two were writing together over a live videostream, they created “Stardust” as a message to their fans. “Stardust” is similar in feel and tone to “Glow in the Dark,” with the subtly mellow and progressive house track melding with Kerli’s lyrics about love and empowerment. Of particular note are the choral background vocal effects which take Kerli’s voice and transform it into an almost surreal and beautiful ghostly melody. A dub with just those pieces over an ethereal trance track would be quite amazing. The lyrics are a continuation of the story of “Zero Gravity,” and that is definitely not a bad thing, especially at this time of the year. Fans have been asking the duo when this song would be released, so the two decided to give it away as a holiday gift. Download it for free by clicking the Soundcloud link below.

SONG OF THE DAY: Lush and Simon ft Rico & Miella – “Drag Me to the Ground”

Following up the gorgeous yet aggressive “City of Light,” Italian duo Alessandro Miselli & Simone Pioltelli, better known as Lush & Simon, unleash “Drag Me to the Ground.” Enlisting the vocalists Rico & Miello, they’ve added a male vocal with a female operatic background to add even more depth. While it starts lush and pretty in the intro, the build-up is a steady, staccato beat which hits a plateau before really exploding in a jump-up, almost hard-style vibe. Like their previous track, it’s the contrast of the two textures which makes the song (not track) stand out above recent releases. Keep your eyes on these guys, they’re upping their game with each release.
