Onomatopoeia as a house record, who knew it would be such a brilliant idea?? Jack Beats, the team of Mixologist Beni G and Scratch Pervert Niall Dailly, have constructed – or deconstructed – the modern house track based on the sounds and the beat.? When you go to a club, it’s the beat that lays the foundation that everyone follows.? Going back to the old school (like with everything else in this nu-house trend), MCs were often accompanied by a beatboxer, someone who created all the sounds with their mouth (rather that a prerecorded track).? “Beatbox” shows these artists respect over a track that is retro Nu-house, with elements of modern electro in there as well, which makes Annie Mac’s support on BBC Radio One no surprise.? The Jack Beats duo has always had a love for mouth sounds; if you go back to their previous release “Somebody to Love,’ you will hear effected robotic mouth sounds used as a hook throughout.? On first listen, don’t be surprised it the first thing that comes to mind is that viral “Boot and Cat.”?? If you are a fan of prankster dance guys using onomatopoeia, be sure to revisit the Discovery Channel loving Bloodhound Gang’s track “Uhn Tiss Uhn Tiss.”

SONG OF THE DAY (SUNDAY FUNDAY): Chromeo – Jealous (I Ain’t With It)
How can you not be a fan of Chromeo?? The Canadians meld electro, ’80s, and disco with a fresh sound that is uniquely them.? You can’t help but dance when songs like “Fancy Footwork” and “Bonafide Loving” come on.? A highlight of the summer was their remix, with Oliver, of Donna Summer’s “Love is in Control,” was just a taste of what’s to come.? Both preview singles from their forthcoming album ‘White Women’ – “Come Alive” and “Jealous” – mash ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s sounds together like a musical blender.? On the intro of “Jealous,” you can hear a bit of collaborator Oliver’s influence since it is reminiscent of Bonnie McKee’s “American Girl,” but over all the sound is clearly Chromeo. If you are a fan of the recent Big Gigantic “The Night is Young” single or are looking for a fun followup to Daft Punk’s ‘Random Access Memories’ (but don’t want to wait four to eight years), here is your soundtrack for a funky spring.

SONG OF THE DAY: Fedde Le Grand – Don’t Give Up
This track is going to sound familiar to a lot of you.? If you watched the movie about the Ultra Music Festival’s 15th edition, “Don’t Give Up” is THAT track that has been unavailable.? Set to be released at the start of the Winter Music Conference/Miami Music Week on March 24th, it will definitely be heard all week.? The big room festival anthem combines the aggressive electro beats with a pretty, anthemic?and uplifting interlude.? Since the track is being set up to be quite massive, it seems inimitable that there will be a vocal version as well.? It is quite funny that there are already mashups of the track floating around – like the solid one with Hardwell & W&W “Jumper.”? While there is rarely a single song that defines the WMC anymore, this could possibly be the one.? It also makes me wonder how this track fits into Fedde’s long-awaited follow-up album to ‘Output’ from back in 2009.
