SONG OF THE DAY: Five Knives – The Rising

Living in Nashville, the trio Five Knives have been on my radar with their incredibly strong string of tracks – Vive Le Roi, Messin’ With My Mind, and The Future. Their sound blends the more aggressive EDM genres – electro, chainsaw, trap, and drum & bass with a rock vibe and the powerful rasp of lead singer Anna Worstell. Imagine a mix of Knife Party, Die Antwoord, Krewella, and Republica to get an idea. Listening to their tracks, it should come as no surprise that they caught a big buzz at SxSW 2013 and have been playing bigger events around the country ever since. Their breakout single “The Rising” is starting to make even more noise in clubs thanks to a plethora of remixes. With so many to choose from, it’s hard to decide on a favorite, but the mixes by Xilent, Dave Aud?, and Damn Kids find their way into my playlists the most often.

The Estonian pop princess recently released her Utopia EP where she leaves behind the darkness and enters the light with a set of uplifting dancefloor gems.? Kerli: Thank you. It feels good but it is not about the charts, it’s about the music and the people.
