INTERVIEW: Hardwell (2013)

The big Dutch EDM producers pretty much fall into two categories ? trance or dirty.? Hardwell stands out as one who blurs the lines, combining the aggressive electro of the Dirty Dutch with the pretty, melodic feel of the trancers.??We spoke during Amsterdam Dance Event on the day of his massive Revealed label party – which ended up being one of the highlights on the entire week.

RS: Are you excited about your big event tonight?
Hardwell: I am really excited, it is the biggest Revealed night that we have had so far. 1,600 tickets sold out in 1 week, the hype has been buzzing on Twitter and Facebook for a month now. I expect a really good party tonight.

SONG OF THE DAY (SUNDAY FUNDAY): Paul Rudd ft Amanda Wilson – “Trust In Me”

It is often said that a great song transcends genre.? This is the reason why you often seen country songs become pop or dance records.? “Trust in Me,” by Paul Rudd and Amanda Wilson, is another great example – the emotionally scorching lyrics work perfectly as a ballad with sparse piano accompaniment and with a gorgeous eurodance pop confection. Amanda Wilson, known for her work with Freemasons and Samuele Sartinin (which became the Tim Berg/Avicii “Seek Bromance”) sounds incredible with her powerful, multiple-octave voice expressing the emotional desire of the song.? Much kudos to producer Paul Rudd who was able to work with such an powerful instrument (Amanda’s voice) and create two incredibly strong, unique versions – a ballad and a dance pop version.? Read the entry on “Something About You” for more about the importance of vocal production, of course, that is after you enjoy these two great versions of “Trust In Me.”

SONG OF THE DAY: Avicii vs Nicky Romero – “I Could Be The One”

This is pretty much a no brainer. Combining two of the biggest (and youngest) superstar producers – stadium house king Avicii and rising dutchman Nicky Romero – it almost seems like David Guetta masterminded this massive collaboration. Following the pattern of Avicii’s biggest hits, “I Could Be The One” started as an instrumental known as both “NickTim” (a combination of their first names) or “Fuck School,” which has been played for almost a year. The electro-tinged stadium house track is nearly by the numbers, which of course is not an insult, just a mention that the formula when executed perfectly yields great results. The uplifting lyrics will quickly get stuck in your head with the catchy, pretty delivery by Noonie Bao (who we just covered last week on the strong Don Diablo track “M1 Stinger.”) The big room club track becomes a pop-ready song that will dominate clubs and should hit radio for the new year. Don’t be surprised if this becomes this year’s “Levels” at WMC.
