SONG OF THE DAY: Lush & Simon – “City of Lights”

Italian duo Alessandro Miselli & Simone Pioltelli, better known as Lush & Simon, follow up their banging track “Adrenaline” with the gorgeous “City of Lights.” The new track flips the script as the prior was hard with a little bit of pretty, the new one is pretty and uplifting with just a touch of aggression to keep it club-friendly. The drop is especially noteworthy, with the pretty yet rock-influenced guitar sound leading the hook (slightly reminiscent of Alesso’s “City of Deams”). It sounds like something that one of the big guys like Armin or Zedd would be releasing for the fall season. As a track it’s incredibly strong, but it feels like it’s calling out to have a great topline on top of it. With the title “City of Lights,” the lyrics are almost in mind as I hear the song play.

SONG OF THE DAY: W&W – “Diving In (Title Unknown)”

Previewed on their recent MainStage podcast #172, there’s a good bit of buzz around a new track from W&W.? Although currently untitled, it will most likely be called “Diving” or “Diving In,” as that is the main vocal in the chorus.? The tracks starts off with big room electro that softens into a break for the female vocals to come in.? Using water references, “you be the ocean, i’ll be the shore,”? the song is about taking chances on a new experience (possibly romantic), sung with pretty vocals that have a bit of edge, not harsh or angelic, but a subtle mix of both. Although just two minutes are posted online, it’s easy to tell that this will be a major tune to watch for.

SONG OF THE DAY: Aly and Fila ft Sue Mclaren – “Mysteries Unfold (Uplifiting Mix)”

Sometimes it really is all about the remix.? Egyptian trance duo Aly & Fila are set to release their Quiet Storm album, which has been preceded by the grungy/alternative rock-feeling “Running Out of Time,” featuring the vocals of Chris Jones.? Going in the opposite direction, “Mysteries Unfold” is pretty, almost soothing trance aimed for the swaying end-of-night feel.? Sue Mclaren’s vocals are lush and flowing, with a slight husky tone, grooving like a lullaby on edge.? On first listen, it sounds good and will work well in a club set and on the radio, but there is something missing.? Then comes the Uplifting mix and all bets are off. Wow, the energy and BPM are increased exponentially, with a powerful kick loop reminiscent of Tiesto “Flight 643” (or for the euro/hardcore fans – the infamous CYT Remix of Erika “I Don’t Know”). A seemingly random male robotic voice adds some dissonance, giving it a bit of added quirk.? Sue’s vocals sound completely different – while still pretty, they are more powerful and anthemic (like one of Sarah McLachlan’s better electronic remixes). ? With the new album coming, let’s hope they follow this inspiration and do a remix album of Uplifting mixes.? That would be a clubslayer.
