SONG OF THE DAY (SUNDAY FUNDAY):?Scandinavian Techno Dance Society – “Hit Song”?

Leave it to the Norwegians for the perfect spoof of stadium house and EDM.? Similar in tone to the dubstep musical “Someone Like Me” by Ylvis, the crew of Kollektivet2 slash apart every big room cliche – modulation, featured vocalists, braindead chants, dance steps – all over a big room stadium house track that sounds like it could “save the world” from the end of pop.? All that’s missing is the unavoidable breakup and the yearlong farewell tour.? In case you can’t read between the lines and see the humor of the paint-by-number nature of current EDM, please take a listen to DJs From Mars “Phat Ass Drop” for step-by-step instructions on making your own club track.

SONG OF THE DAY: Firebeatz – “Yeahhhh”

I was searching for a streaming link of the Firebeatz mix of the new Wallpaper track “Good 4 It” and came across this track “Yeah,” which served as a fitting distraction.? Distraction isn’t the right word, maybe big room monster? ?The Dutch duo has managed to fuse several of the current sounds – rock, electro, and ’90s techno together in this massively energetic track. The dropout has a dirty, almost eerie, feel from which a pounding synth gradually crescendoes to a frenetic explosion.? The techno vibe is definitely there as you could imagine Jade 4 U screaming something sexual on top. Though the vocals are kept simple, with just the vocal sample “Yeahhh” which is not only the title but a? perfect description of how a dance floor will react when this gets dropped in primetime.

SONG OF THE DAY: Mat Zo & Porter Robinson – “Easy”?

As Daft Punk is dominating the EDM headlines with the leaking/release of new music, take a minute to make sure you have “Easy” on your mp3 player.? This massive collaboration by the duo of young twenty-somethings Porter Robinson (mastermind of “Language”) and Mat Zo topped the Beatport charts at the end of last year and is finally getting a full-on commercial release.? You’ve no doubt heard the track, a synth-heavy monster with a retro feel reminiscent of Daft Punk’s “One More Time” and a catchy vocal hook updated with a big room stadium electro sound.? The remix package is quite sick, with out there takes by Botnek, Andy C, Modek, and LeMaitre which mutate the synth hook in interesting directions.? The animated video by The Line (animators Wesley Louis and Tim McCourt) is a retrofuturistic take of Daft Punk’s cartoon album with elements of classic Don Bluth.? Why do I have a feeling that this is going to become the theme song for a major advertisement campaign in the very near future?
