As Daft Punk is dominating the EDM headlines with the leaking/release of new music, take a minute to make sure you have “Easy” on your mp3 player. This massive collaboration by the duo of young twenty-somethings Porter Robinson (mastermind of “Language”) and Mat Zo topped the Beatport charts at the end of last year and is finally getting a full-on commercial release. You’ve no doubt heard the track, a synth-heavy monster with a retro feel reminiscent of Daft Punk’s “One More Time” and a catchy vocal hook updated with a big room stadium electro sound. The remix package is quite sick, with out there takes by Botnek, Andy C, Modek, and LeMaitre which mutate the synth hook in interesting directions. The animated video by The Line (animators Wesley Louis and Tim McCourt) is a retrofuturistic take of Daft Punk’s cartoon album with elements of classic Don Bluth. Why do I have a feeling that this is going to become the theme song for a major advertisement campaign in the very near future?
