SONG OF THE DAY:?Nightstylers ft Dan Brown – “Shadows”

While I realize that being an artist is following your inspiration to make music from your soul, sometimes I wish that my favorites would go in a different direction.? Listening to the new “Shadows” track from Nightstylers ft Dan Brown, this is what I wish Depeche Mode’s new album would have sounded like.?? Take the alternative synth pop from their ’80s beginnings, mix in some of their ’90s rock exploration, and color it with their dark-yet-uplifting signature and this really does feel like it could be a Depeche Mode track (and that’s a high compliment). As a followup to “More I See,” the Nightstylers go a bit more progressive but still keep a similar vibe.? It also seems like they’ve found the perfect muse with the expressively raw vocalist Dan Brown.?? Keep your eye open for more quality releases from the British trio comprised of members of the Freestylers, Sol Brothers, and Bimbo Jones.

SONG OF THE DAY:?Charlie Darker – “Anxiety”

For some reason, when I was listening to “Anxiety” I was having a flashback to the part of “Rush” by Big Audio Dynamite when they were talking about the only important thing today is “rhythm and melody.” Rising Canadian producer/DJ Charlie Darker has found his own sound, a blend of hard and pretty – aggressive, bass-driven electro smoothed out with pretty, melodic breaks. The contrasts work and make for interesting tracks like “Anxiety” and his recent collaboration with Paris & Simo, “Cairo.”? Along with rising star Popeska, Charlie has been signed by electro mastermind Wolfgang Gartner to his Kindergarten Recordings.? In addition to checking out his track, follow him on twitter as his ramblings as a 20 year-old spinning around the country tend to be quite humorous.

SONG OF THE DAY:? Funkerman – “Push’em Up”

As I was listening to Fedde Le Grand’s “Rockin and Rollin” yesterday, I was wondering what his partner in crime Funkerman was up to.? From the sound of his new imprint Can You Feel It records, it sounds like Funkerman is morphing into Discoman (and not just because of the “I Feel Love” cover playing on his Festival YouTube preview). ?We’re not talking retread ’70s disco, but a modern update at a groovy tempo with acidic lines and catchy vocal hooks.? There is a sparse, funky feel that will suck you in and it’s not too fast (or trying to hard). ?If you like “Push ’em Up,” be sure to check out his recent “Paradise/Dashboardlight” track as well.
