SONG OF THE DAY (SUNDAY?FUNDAY PART 2) : Robyn ft Snoop Dogg – “U Should Know Better”

Everyone loves Robyn.? How can you not?? The Swedish electropop star harnesses her massive creativity for songwriting, production, and live performances – elevating pop to a higher art form.? Recently she collaborated with the Lonely Island for a spoof of instructional Tear Up Da Club records called “Go Kindergarten,” and then a new comical video for “U Should Know Better” popped up this week.? Robyn’s music can often be split into two categories – the sensitive and emotional heartbreaking, pretty songs (“Dancing On My Own,” “Dream On,” “With Every Heartbeat”) and the raucous, boasting hype records (“Konichiwa Bitches,” “Don’t Tell Me What to F**king Do”). Taken from Body Talk Part 2 (you can tell the track’s age because Snoop is still a dogg and not yet a lion),? “U Should Know Better” is a frantic upbeat jump-up electro track? featuring the two bragging why people can’t mess with them.? As playful as the song is (because come on, how rough can a rapper be who got his butt kicked by animated gummi bears in a Katy Perry video), the new video elevates the tongue-in-cheek bravado with cross-dressing stars playing the two – a little boy dressed and dancing as Robyn (including all of her choreography and iconic hairstyle) and a girl dressed as Snoop in all the outfits smoking and dressing down members of the opposite sex with his/her stares. Look closely and you will see Robyn playing the mom, as well as a poster of Neneh Cherry, one of Robyn’s childhood idols hanging in the bedroom.

SONG OF THE DAY (SUNDAY?FUNDAY):?? Kryoman vs Stellar? – “Crowd Fuker”

Those of us a certain age will remember an infamous CD compilation called ‘Rave Til Dawn.”? For many, it was our first introduction to techno and rave with songs by Praga Khan, Lords of Acid, and 2 Unlimited – fondly considered the gateway to the party scene.? Apparently, the ’90s are back and a guy in a LED robot suit is hitting the scene, bringing back the same techno for a new generation of rave kids (maybe the offspring of the original PLUR generation). Having never seen Kryoman perform live, I can only go by the video for “Crowd Fuker” where his amazing sets inspire over the top debaucherous partying where everyone passes out until the next day when they are ready to go at it again.? His energetic dancing is a cross between the box-headed guy in LMFAO videos and Steve Aoki’s shenanigans.? The track itself could easily fit on Rave Til Dawn (mixed between tracks 5 and 6 maybe), but if retro house is making a comeback, why can’t old school techno music?? As a DJ, the next time I get annoyed by some moron yelling at me because all I play is techno, this will be the next track because of its appropriate and uplifting message of “F*ck You.”?

SONG OF THE DAY: Inpetto – “Girls and Boys”

And the ’90s revival continues. Brit rock band Blur was no stranger to clubland with remixes by Pet Shop Boys and Carl Cox being commissioned.? A few years back, it seemed like every time you blinked your eye there was another bootleg of “Song #2.”? German trance/progressive house duo Inpetto is no stranger to commercial hooks (they are 2/3 of the group Fragma, who created “Toca’s Miracle”), so using the catchy singalong chorus of Blur’s “Girls and Boys” was a no-brainer.?? Repeated over an energetic stadium house track, the few lines become a new song ready to dominate dance floors all over again. Many kudos to the Duderstadt brothers for their humorous take on the original artwork.? It takes guts (and a good sense of humor) to rock a long blonde wig and a full beard.
