This is the interesting spot that vocalists are often in, with multiple releases dropping at the same time. Just as her solo single “U B the Bass” is climbing the club charts, two additional singles by Luciana, showing her multiple personae, are let loose. Working again with Richard Vission (half of the team behind the seminal “I Like That”), she unleashes her savage self with “Primitive,” an overtly aggressive rap over a hybrid electro/trap track. This is probably the most hardcore she’s ever gone in a club record and one could only imagine the energy this would bring in a live performance. On the opposite end of the spectrum is “Guess What,” a much more playful and campy electropop romp with queer sex symbol Cazwell. While it feels like a followup to her solo record “I’m Still Hot,” the boastful yet joyous lines are lighthearted and fun, with the production by Marina & Fagault being both clubworthy and pop-friendly at the same time. Of special note is how both characters deliver their well-written and believable lines – because Luciana is definitely hotter than a chili pepper and it wouldn’t surprise us at all if Cazwell really does sh*t glitter.

SONG OF THE DAY: David Guetta & GLOWINTHEDARK ft Harrison – “Aint A Party”
You’ve got to give a lot of respect to David Guetta – he gives credit and props to all of the producers that he works with.? Rising Dutch producers GLOWINTHEDARK (aka Albert Harvey and Kevin Ramos) have become well known as ghost producers- you know- the guys who do the work for other artists.? Dutch superstar Chuckie introduced them to David Guetta at WMC and the bond was formed.? “Ain’t a Party” is a big room, monstrous electro track with intense energy, aggressive vocals (NSFW), and a rock guitar hook of the caliber of a Red Hot Chilli Peppers or a Nirvana hit. That hook is so instantly memorable and recognizable that it will no doubt be resampled and reused all summer long (you can probably expect either Flo Rida or Pitbull to jump on it). This is a massive club tune that will work in any big room or commercial club around the world. Just yesterday, we wrote up the Red Hot Chili Peppers remix, and while we see why it’s going to be a massive festival record found it a tad generic, excepting its use of original track elements. “Ain’t A Party” is a similar record in theme, but with a more creative execution.

SONG OF THE DAY: Red Hot Chili Peppers – “Otherside” (Third Party Remix)
Something about the Red Hot Chili Peppers has inspired many an electronic music DJ/producer to remix and mash up their tracks.? “Dani California,” “Under the Bridge,” “Give It Away,” “By The Way,” and “Californication” have all had multiple versions float around and over the past few years, and several versions of an “Otherside” bootleg have made the rounds.? The RHCP’s record label, Warner Bros., heard the buzz and stepped in to commission a remix and thus the Third Party remix is now official.? Very much the cliched stadium track, it is still quite good for what it is.? Big room claps build with electro loops leading to the perfectly-timed drop to pretty much the original production and vocals.? Fifteen seconds of that, and you hear the stadium chords behind build into elevated beats as the “all I ever” vocal sample repeats.? Cue the euphoric drum fill to the progressive/stadium hook and the formula is complete. This isn’t to say that the remix is bad – it’s not – it just uses the same template that every one of these records use. It’s reminiscent of the paint-by-number Royal Gigolos cover versions from a few years back, though by having the original vocals and production as a key element of the track, it feels more special than most tracks of this ilk. This will no doubt be a massive festival record this summer and maybe even make it onto radio as well, but something tells us that this might be a sign that the end is coming to the three chord bro-house stadium sound that seems to define the EDM movement.?
