SONG OF THE DAY: Quintino & MOTi ft Taylr Renee – “Dynamite”

Here’s a track that lives up to its name.? “Dynamite,” the new track from rising Dutch stars Quintino & MOTi with Taylr Renee, is explosive, blending old school rave techno with electro- and a bit of raunchy fun.? The stop/start phrasing of the siren hook amplifies the energy, bringing back the vibe of Afrojack’s earliest work with the harder techno edge that is in vogue right now.? Just as Ke$ha has her trademark talk/sing sound, singer Taylr Renee is establishing her own scream/sing style, which while similar to Luciana and Kay has a distinctive edge that is uniquely her.? Recent collaborations with Sick Individuals & Axwell, Tom Swoon, and Schoolboy & James Egbert show that she is one will be hearing a lot from.? “Dynamite” is such a massive record that when a crowd hears “Boom Goes the Dynamite,” their reaction will be just that.

SONG OF THE DAY: Avicii ft Salem Al Fakir – “You Make Me”

Following up the international smash “Wake Me Up,” Avicii has changed the vibe for “You Make Me.”?? Rather than channeling country and bluegrass, the influence seems to be ’70s rock with a bit of added piano for effect.? It feels similar to Capital Cities “Safe and Sound,” with a bit more of an electro vibe and synth hooks that could have been interpolated from “Wake Me Up.”?? Since it feels kind of familiar, it may not grab you instantly, but after a few listens, the hooks really hit earworm territory. The roller rink battle video is good, cheesy fun showing that not everything is serious in Avicii-land – with the same kind of camp humor found in the “I Could Be The One” clip, but with a much happier ending.

SONG OF THE DAY (SUNDAY?FUNDAY):? Ylvis – “The Fox”

It’s really easy to make fun of dance music. The French brand of Spitting Image puppets have made superstar David Guetta a common target, but the Norwegians seem to be having the most fun, with the Kollektivet2 slaughtering Swedish House Mafia as Scandinavian Techno Dance Society and the brothers Ylvis making the dubstep musical ‘Someone Like Me.’ ?This past week, another recent bit by Ylvis has become as viral as “Gangnam Style” – a children’s song called “The Fox.” It’s clearly satire, mocking the inane lyrics and the standard production sounds and effects heard in just about every dance-pop record (do we see a Ke$ha or will.i.am collab in the near future…). ?There’s even one bit which seems inspired by the insipid Crazy Frog from 2005.?? For a bit of mindless fun, check out “The Fox” and don’t be surprised if kindergarten kids start dancing to it for their holiday recitals.
