SONG OF THE DAY: DaCav – “NA NA NA”

Clubkid pranksters DaCav are back with “NaNaNa,” a chant-driven party-ready track that might just get stuck in your head. They return with one less guy in the mix which explains the 5 excised from ?dacav5.? The remaining members develop more into archetypes of aspiring dj, street mc, muscle head and hot chick while aiming to poke fun at themselves along the way. Imagine the offspring of Black Eyed Peas and LMFAO by way of the Jersey Shore for a frame of reference. Blending varying elements of electro beats, ragga toasting, “Din Daa Da”-esque stuttered chants, sirens, and sexy female vocals, a song is created that is better than the sum of its parts. The video further reinforces the fact that DaCav are all about having a good time and don’t take themselves too seriously. They definitely aren’t afraid to experiment with any fetish out there: chains, plashes, trannies, musclemen, snakes and more. I personally would love to locate the computer speakers that emit such an overpowering volume of sound in the video that cause harm to the elderly. Equipped with last summer’s club hit “Dirty Style,” Sexy Body (featuring the Jump Smokers) and “Na Na Na,” DaCav’s new EP Party Mode is definitely worth checking out.

SONG OF THE DAY: deadmau5 ft Chris James – “The Veldt”

When science fiction author Ray Bradbury wrote ?The World Children Made? in 1950, he might have foreseen a world where we get lost in the futuristic. After reading the story (renamed ?The Veldt? for its setting of rural grasslands of South America), deadmau5 was inspired to create the music for it. The gorgeously melodic, yet haunting track illustrated the story seemingly without the need for words. Through twitter, deadmau5 then stumbled upon Chris James lyrics and found an emotionally eloquent expression of the story. The video, created by Qudos Animations, illustrates the childlike simplicity and ultimate darkness of the story ? when fantasies become real with a tragic consequence. The combination of music, lyrics, and video combine to capture the ultimate allegory of the Internet ? we can create an elaborate and all-encompassing fantasy world, but will we lose our sense of reality and emotional connections in the world which are the most vital?

SONG OF THE DAY: Scissor Sisters – “Let’s Have a Kiki (Videodrome Discotheque Video Mix)”

It’s that time of year, with Pride celebrations proliferating and the mercury skyrocketing, when just having a good time can feel exhausting. So leave it to Craig MacNeil, the genius VJ/DJ at Boston’s bi-weekly Videodrome Discotheque, to take the Scissor Sisters’ party anthem “Let’s Have a Kiki” and turn it into a four-minute slice of euphoria that not only will make you get up and dance, but also take you on a whirlwind through the past forty years of awesome. You could teach entire semesters worth of grad school queer history studies just on this one video, which encompasses everything from pop culture ephemera (Cher’s workout video in the “If I Could Turn Back Time” outfit, Paul Williams’ variety show appearances), films maudits like The Apple, Showgirls, and Cruising, the Satan’s Alley sequence from Staying Alive, and countless other moments, routines, and gestures. It’s a stunning work of ingenuity that takes the Scissors’ track and makes it into the dancefloor videoscreen must-see of the summer. Not to be missed.
