SONG OF THE DAY: Chicane & Ferry Corsten ft Christian Burns ? ?One Thousand Suns?

Sometimes you ask and you receive.? On original release of “One Thousand Suns” back in September we described it as a Reese?s peanut butter cup ? two great tastes that taste great together. UK producer Chicane has created some of the biggest trance tracks in clubland history (“Strong in Love,” ?Saltwater,? ?Offshore,? ?Don?t Give Up?) and so has Dutch producer/DJ Ferry Corsten (?Out of the Blue,? ?Rock Your Body Rock,? ?Junk/Punk?). Together they have created an absolutely gorgeous balearic track ? it?s not exactly trance, nor is it morning music- but rather a fusion of the two genres. Maybe it?s a response to all the aggressive electro that is out there, but there?s something really soothing to the groovy flow of this track. The pads in the breakdown are nearly emotional with the way they feel, and the extended buildup prolongs excitement. The fact that it doesn?t lead to a harder or louder feel makes the track even more special.?Incredibly strong, the track received massive play around the world and is back again with a vocal from BBMak vocalist turned popular Armada collaborator Christian Burns.? The lyrics are cool and emotional without resorting to the stock cliches often heard on tracks of the nature.? Its also great to hear that the producers were able to place the vocals over beats rather than over a 2 minute beatless dropout in the middle of the track.? Both remixers manage to do this as well with Danny Howard pumping up the energy with a bit of electro and Soundprank taking a more progressive turn.? With this new vocal version, “One Thousand Suns” just might make the leap from the clubs to crossover.

SONG OF THE DAY: Nom De Strip & Hatiras – “Nippleodeon”

Ah, the glorious WTF track… In the constant stream of tracks released on a weekly basis, it takes a special or WTF (what the fuck) track to stand out and make you notice.? It’s not that “Nippleodeon” is completely original – there are elements of ’90s techno, late ’80s industrial, glitch, and electro mixed with diva vocal samples, handclaps, and horn loops. The way that all these parts are seamlessly blended is what elevates it from a mash-up to a truly original track. ?Nippleodeon is for the big rooms what Arcader’s “Pillowtalk” is for the techno-heads.? That the title is quite fun to say just makes it even more stupid fresh.

REVIEW: Alex Gaudino – ‘Doctor Love’

Reviewed by: Ben Norman

Dance music is its own punishment and its own reward. No statement is more true when listening to Alex Gaudino’s ‘Doctor Love’ album. Alex Gaudino, who has been responsible for tracks like “Destination Calabria” and “What A Feeling,” the 2012 Pride song with Kelly Rowland, does nothing more than pump out feel-good dance pop jams. It’s pervasive, perverse, and perfunctory, but you’ll dance your ass off and blare it through your speakers while driving down the road, and no one could say anything less about you since they’ll be doing it, too.
