SONG OF THE DAY: Mobin Master vs Tate Strauss ft Polina – “Dreams”

EDM is truly international. Bubbling up from down under, the team of Mobin Master and Tate Strauss follow up their pumping electro track “KTBMF” with the beautiful vocal track “Dreams.” The soft and soothing intro draws you in as the track increases in layers as the mesmerizing vocals of Russian singer Polina Goudieva float on top. The loops build until they crescendo into full-on hands-in-the-air energy of the stadium-ready bridge. I regret using the term stadium, because “Dreams” is so far away from the cliche which the word calls to mind. If you listen closely, the flow of the rhythm is rather complex with the way it builds and drops so fluidly over the course of the track. DJs preferring a harder, more electro-based mix should go right to the aptly-named Festival mix. In the original mix, “Dreams” makes a perfect song to end a night with.

SONG OF THE DAY: Marco V – “Hypergenic Supersonic Futuristic Monophonic”

Dutch eletro/tech-trance dj/producer Marco V follows up his recent “Scream” and “Walhalla” with “Hypergenic Supersonic Futuristic Monophonic”, a true mashup of styles. Elements of classic techno and tribal merge with modern electro, glitch and the obligatory progressive breakdown for quite a memorable track. The retro feel of the robot-voiced lyrics is further reflected in the accompanying video, a space-themed video game harkening back to the side-scrolling platform console shoot-em-ups of the 80s/90s. As a cool bonus, you can actually play the game by going to his Facebook page, and the song plays as the soundtrack. Considering all the times EDM producers have created soundtracks for video games, creating a game for your track seems like the logical next step. Playing the game with the song on endless loop gets it ingrained in your head so much it become beyond addicting. Next thing you know, you are buying the track on Beatport.
Mission accomplished.

SONG OF THE DAY: Pet Shop Boys – “Axis”

Written by Zteven Zangbang

“Axis”, the first track taken from Pet Shop Boys’ forthcoming album “Electric,” is an everything-but-the-kitchen-synth italo disco laser dance workout. This largely instrumental track chugs and clicks and whizzes along in an analogue nod to robo-dance pioneers Giorgio Moroder and Patrick Cowley, while also benefiting from the modern glossy sheen of producer Stuart Price. The track’s vocal refrain of a vocoder chant of “electric energy.. electric energy..” borders on transcendental, while the video somehow bridges the cinematic gaps between “Cruising”, “The Island of Dr. Moreau” and “Tron”.
