SONG OF THE DAY: Cole Plante ft Brian Logan Dales and Brix – I’m Yours

Between remixes (Erika Jane, Demi Lovato) and touring (he opened for Demi for two months), 17-year old DJ/producer Cole Plante keeps himself busy. Following up the Billboard Club Chart-topping “If I Fall” comes the vibey progressive pop song “Before I’m Yours.” Possibly inspired by the groove of Zedd’s “Find You,” which also featured two vocalists, the song has lush synthwork and airy pads which flow behind the back-and-forth verses of Brian Logan Dales (of the Summer Set) and Brix. The overall feel is subtle and groovy, which will probably be toughened up with club remixes, but on its own feels like loungey EDM for lazy Sunday by the pool.

SONG OF THE DAY: Paloma Faith – Only Love Can Hurt Like This (Adam Turner Remix)

When you combine a Dianne Warren song with an incredible voice and a brilliant remix, the result is sheer magic (look up the Soul-Hex remix of Toni Braxton “Unbreak My Heart” for a classic example). Paloma’s voice is powerful and unlike anyone else singing right now. Her songs often have a retro vibe with a twist, and “Only Love Can Hurt Like This” sounds like a lost Dusty Springfield gem. In the capable hands of rising DJ/producer Adam Turner, the song is transformed into dance floor magic – primetime progressive pop with a bit of a classic Hi-NRG feel. You can picture the crowd singing along at the break as the drum fill leads them to a climax. It’s no wonder that “Only Love” is Paloma’s most successful single in the UK and hopefully those of us in the States will embrace her quirky lovable talent as well.

SONG OF THE DAY: Kim Sozzi – Never Say Goodnight

In the world of dance-pop,? the focus is often on the producer and the artist.? Kim Sozzi is one of the few singers who commands our attention with a decade-long string of hit singles and the incredibly strong and dynamic voice that is uniquely hers.? Back for 2014, “Never Say Goodnight” feels modern and classic at the same time.? The lyrical story of learning from the past while hoping for a better future together is a universal theme that everyone can relate to.? You can imagine High School girls singing it in Vines and Instagram videos, but it’s doubtful they will be able to match the powerful, breathy and, dare I say, sexy voice of Kim.??? The two mixes by Jason Nevins and Baggi Begovic are somewhat similar with the current Zedd/Audien hybrid progressive pop sound.? The main difference is Jason’s mix starts off slower and builds into the chorus, while Baggi’s is chugging from the beginning.? Either one will sound great on dance radio and it’s easy to imagine it will become a theme for reunions, homecoming dances, and proms all next year.

Side note: Kim is posting a lot of Behind the Scenes clips onto her YouTube channel?from her video shoots and even from her lost years in Germany as Kim Styles. They are definitely worth checking out.
