SONG OF THE DAY: Rozalla ft David Anthony – Can You Feel the Love

The “Queen of Rave” is best known for the classic technohouse anthem “Everybody’s Free (To Feel Good)” which gets remixed and rereleased every couple of years (Kortezman, Global Deejays, EFX and Digit, Aquagen, Gitta, Richard Vission). A 2013 remix by David Anthony seems to have led to the new original song “Can You Feel the Love Tonight,” a stomping yet classy electrohouse track with a progressive feel and a singalong uplifting chorus. The repeated chords seem familiar yet are different than what you normally hear in the “typical” vocal progressive track. Rozalla sounds incredible, as she always does, and adding a nice bit of soul to a current big room club track gives it a wonderful flavor as well. Released last week on Planet Punk Music it seems to be available only in select European countries, but I have a feeling it will be picked up by a major for internal distribution quite soon. SONG OF THE DAY: The Chainsmokers ft Siren – Kanye

How do you follow up the notorious electro track #Selfie? With another meme record of course. Kanye West is notorious for his aspirations to build a life on his own terms and vigorously defending it, despite what other people think. If that sounds like an overly kind description of someone who seems to consider themselves an untouchable deity, maybe it is. But the thought to make an uplifting vocal dance track about dreaming to be more like Kanye, or even turn Kanye into adjective sounds absurd, as if Kanye paid the hottest electro producers to satiate his ego with a press-baiting dance track. Then when you remember these are the same guys who took a low-rent forgettable electro track and turned it into an international zeitgeist by throwing a vacuous spoken vocal about taking a #Selfie on top. Production-wise, “Kanye” is lightyears ahead of #Selfie, blending indiehouse (or is it future house) with commercial electro, lush vocals from the gorgeous female duo Siren, and a surprisingly pretty piano intro. The lyrics are a bit simple, but what do you expect? The Chainsmokers have shown they can remix a track, see Tove Lo “Habits” and even their earlier work with Priyanka Chopra, but you have to wonder if their original productions are going to be one novelty record after another. Will Kanye become as big as #Selfie? Doubtful. Will it get people to keep talking about and dancing to The Chainsmokers? Judging by the chatter in the blogosphere, they answer is yes.

SONG OF THE DAY: Mightyfools – Shaolin

Shaolin usually refers to martial arts, specifically kung fu.? Dutch duo Mightyfools build a banging electro track, complete with laser sounds that inspire visions of stars (the throwing weapon) flying right past you in the air.? Bounce, shake, and battle it out is what the sampled vocal tells you to do, and while the track is aggressive, it’s not nearly as hard as you might expect. It fits in with the recent Bounce tracks by Showtek and TJR while adding a bit of a fresh touch.? Don’t get me wrong, it’s not revolutionary or anything, but it freshens up the sound by putting a different spin (excuse the pun) on it.
