SONG OF THE DAY (SUNDAY?FUNDAY): The Blackhats – Ralph and Vicky

Here’s a total novelty record made for us all geeks out there.? Two hormonally-charged robots describing their courtship and fornication using computer terms (hard drive, cache, etc.) over an electro beat.? The results are humorous, and on first play in mix show, messages came pouring in.? With the right video and animated characters, this could cross over in a tech-obsessed world. Searching online, I found Chris Sammarco’s mix- which goes tribal and adds a bit of aggression with a good result.?? Release is apparently coming in September, so while you wait check out the “Cheekah Bow Bow” from the Vengaboys, a similarly themed robot love track featuring the only known appearance of DJ Bill Gates.

SONG OF THE DAY: Jin Jin – “Fire Me Up”

Following up the playful and insanely catchy pop ditty “Whistle at Me,” the colorfully exuberant Jin Jin returns with “Fire Me Up.” Aimed directly at the clubs, the track is a modern mash of two beloved ’90s styles – two-step garage and speed garage, with a taste of electro to make it fresh for 2013.? Imagine Wynter Gordon as produced by Artful Dodger for a frame of reference The results are energetic and playful, yet tough enough to go off massively in a big room. The delightfully low budget video is quite sharp, and makes a great introduction to Jin Jin as she and her friends have an impromptu party at a random loft. It’s the kind of house party worthy of an escape.? While your clicking around, be sure to check out her unique take of Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky.”

SONG OF THE DAY: DJs from Mars – “Rock’N’Roll”?

I’ve got a lot of love for the DJs from Mars.? The Italian prankster boxhead Producer/DJ duo bring fun and humor to the world of EDM, which often takes itself far too seriously.? Remember “Phat Ass Drop,” their insanely viral instruction clip on how to make “that” big track that sounds like what everyone else is making?? Can you guess what “Rock’N’Roll” sounds like?? Yes, they went there – first with the attitude of the intro where they list what they don’t play, and then as the track builds in intensity, the guitar solo takes the focus as they seamless merge rock and electronic music with an aggressive, energetic sound.? With their fondness and expertise for mashups, it’s not a surprise they are able to bring the two genres together so well.? Together with last year’s track by Sharkjumpers & Shreddward and the Skrillex vs Doors “Breaking a Sweat,” the rock-and-dance fusion could be the next big thing.? Since everything ’90s is coming back, that would be the cue for a new generation to enjoy the Prodigy experience.??
