SONG OF THE DAY: Sultan + Ned Shepard ft Zella Day And Sam Martin – “All These Roads”

It really is all about the journey. The evolution of the DJ/Producer continues as live instrumentation is being brought into EDM. Sultan & Ned Shepard follow up their recent singles “Ordinary People” and “Somebody to Love” with the genre-redefining “All These Roads.” Elements of country, blues and jazz merge together as the song feels like a musical fusion rather than a dj making beats for a singer to write a top line on. Imagine Avicii’s “Wake Me Up” with the uplifting folky feel of The Lumineers “Ho Hey” for a point of reference. This is one of those rare club tracks that will sound as good performed by a live band (with these two incredible vocalists) as it does being played by DJs at a big festival. We may not know where “All These Roads” will lead, but the journey is worth taking if Sultan & Ned are leading the way.

SONG OF THE DAY (SUNDAY FUNDAY): Mel B – “For Once In My Life”

Scary spice Mel B is back with the uplifting dance pop confection “For Once In My Life.” The production is similar to what you would expect from a big name dance producer and pop artist collaboration – like David Guetta and Kelly Rowland or Calvin Harris and Rihanna – complete with positive and inspirational lyrics that would be the equivalent of a mature or modernized “girl power” anthem (should we call it “woman power”)? You’ve got to love an artist who can deliver lines like “the world is my dance floor” believably with the life experiences of being up and down while in the spotlight. The video is quite a bit of fun, playfully filmed to be like a real-life single take but obviously isn’t. “For Once In My My Life” is the kind of song that a mom and daughter can have fun with, singing and dancing together.

SONG OF THE DAY:? Duck Sauce – “Radio Stereo”

The duo of Armand Van Helden and A-Trak are back, following up their doo-wop-inspired “It’s You” with “Radio Stereo.”? Based on samples from? The Members’ “Radio,” the ska-punk song is transformed into bouncy electro dub with horns and an oddly ELO-inspired feel. Yes, there is a mash of styles, but it works way better than you would imagine.? Dutch heavyweights Bingo Players mash different grooves together for a big room monster complete with bits of ’90s Daft Punk, hard electro, and stadium. It’s just this kind of randomness that we’ve come to expect from Duck Sauce and we can’t wait to see what kind of visual orgy they concoct for the video.? After this and their other singles “aNYway,” “Barbara Streisand,” “Big Bad Wolf,” and “It’s You,” we also can’t wait to hear what else they come up for their album Quack, which is due to be released later this year,
