By now you’ve seen the infamous “#Hashtag” skit from Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake- well, here comes the long-awaited dance track sampling it. Constructed by Dave Aude, the pounding electro jam features Luciana talking sarcastically in #hashtags with that vulgar and dry wit that makes her such a beloved part of clubland. Whether or not this is a response to the omnipresent “#Selfie” by Chainsmokers is unknown, but the satirical and rhythmic similarity makes it seem quite likely. Either way, “#Hashtag” will definitely be a fun track to drop on an unexpecting dancefloor right afterwards.

SONG OF THE DAY: Clean Bandit ft Sharna Bass – Extraordinary
Following up a massive number one single like “Rather Be” is quite a challenge, but Clean Bandit have done quite well with aptly-titled “Extraordinary.” Continuing their signature sound of mixing classical instrumentation (piano/cello) with classic house vibes, the groovy-tempoed track is the perfect bed for the honeyed-soul vocals of 16 year-old newcomer Sharna Bass. When I wrote up “Rather Be,” I described it as the “2014 take on the Deep Dish/Everything But the Girl collaborations and productions,” and this new song continues that direction with a bit more of a soulful garage vibe. Set for a June release, Clean Bandit’s debut album ‘New Eyes’ (which includes their previous releases “Mozart’s House” and “Dust Clears”) is shaping up to be this year’s massive credible dance-pop crossover in the same vein as Disclosure. I know that I will be buying the download as soon as it is available.

SONG OF THE DAY: Bimbo Jones & Beverley Knight – I Found Out
Beloved producer/remix duo Bimbo Jones officially launch their long-awaited second artist album ‘Go Naked’ with “I Found Out,” a modern version of the classic diva-done-wrong anthem. Over a frolicking electropop beat, British soul singer Beverley Knight (“Shoulda Woulda Coulda,” “Come As Your Are”) lets her former partner have it for all the ways she has been disrespected. Remixes by Sebastian Carter, Funky Junction & Ariano Kino, and Looney B take the track in various directions – nu-house, big room, old-school disco, harder electro – with the vocal always being the focus. Joining the previously released “Everything That I Got” (with Kristine W) and “See U Later/Questions” (with Ida Corr), “I Found Out” highlights the focus of their album – classically talented and big voices singing full-on songs over electro – something which is actually quite rare in the genre. With additional songs by Angie Brown, Blake Lewis, Debra Andrews, Sergio Mendes, and four powerhouse workouts by Katherine Ellis, ‘Go Naked’ is a must have for any lover of vocal dance music.
