German music producer Michael Mind seems to be finding his niche in EDM land by covering and updating classic rock and pop songs with electro beats for commercial dance floors and radio. Following up his string of “Blinded By the Light,” “Ride Like the Wind,” “Baker Street,” and “Show Me Love” comes “Feeling So Blue.” Reworking “Blue” by Eiffel 65 is not an original idea as Flo Rida did just that with “Sugar” a few years ago “Feeling So Blue” keep the chorus, ups the energy and adds new verses from Dante Thomas. The vocals have a lot of effects but still retain some emotion unlike the robotized feel of the original song. “Feeling So Blue” is fun mindless europop perfect for the new generation who don’t know the original or for those who were around the first time and want to relive the pop memories. By the way, contrary to popular thought, “Da Ba Dee” was not originally sung as “if i was green I would die.”

SONG OF THE DAY: Rebecca & Fiona – “If She Was Away”
Seems like this summer has been a deluge of Rebecca & Fiona singles? – “Dance,” “Hard,” “Bullets,” “Jane Doe,” and, of course, “Turn It Down” with Kaskade. The Swedish duo, assisted by “Teenage Crime”-producer Adrian Lux (who is dating Rebecca), continues their streak of intelligent dance pop singles with “If She Was Away.”?? Pumping up the tempo for a jump-up ’80s vibe (think “She Bop” or “Material Girl”), ?the modern electronic groove is the perfect bed for the duo’s breathy, almost dreamlike vocals.?? If you liked the eighties grooves of their past songs, you will love this.? If you haven’t heard their past singles, take this as an invitation to do so. Their debut album, ‘I Love You Man,’ is quite a wonderful collection of modern electropop, and for those us of jonesing for a new Robyn album, it makes for a nice way to satiate our appetite.

SONG OF THE DAY: Caned & Able – “Lullaby”
When I saw the label, PSB Music, I immediately got excited and thought, oh wow, the Pet Shop Boys are starting another record label.? While that is not the case, I did discover the quite interesting electronic fusion artist Caned & Able. Comprised of former members of Primal Scream, Gene Loves Jezebel, and Siouxsie & the Banshees, Caned & Able are up for a Mercury Prize for their album Cosmosis.? While the whole album isn’t EDM-based, there are elements throughout.? Take their cover of the Cure’s “Lullaby,” sung as a male-female duet produced as a fusion of ’90s grooves, broken beat, and electro with a touch of spoken word – it’s easy to see why Robert Smith has endorsed it. For a more dancefloor-friendly version, Adamski remixes it in a style that might sound retro to some, but actually sounds remarkably fresh.? If Pete Hammond can remix tracks that channel the glory of Stock Aiken Waterman’s heyday, I totally support Adamski taking us back to the acid house glory days of the late eighties and early nineties.
