SONG OF THE DAY (SUNDAY FUNDAY): Ke$ha – “Die Young” (Seamus Haji Remix)

“Die Young” is a total guilty pleasure. Yes, it sounds like every other Ke$ha song, but with the track at 128 bpm if you strip out the vocals (and the Illuminati/New World Order nonsense) it could easily be a Swedish House Mafia or Calvin Harris pop record. British producer Seamus Haji has been on quite a roll lately, turning in solid club mixes from artists as varied as The Gossip, Elton John vs Pnau, Maroon 5, Ne-Yo, and Rita Ora. In his deft hands, “Die Young” is elevated to primetime commercial club monster- with harder electro buildups, a more dramatic dropout, and even sicker vocal effects. It would be interesting to see what would happen if one of the big-name DJs dropped an instrumental of Seamus’ mix, because I bet if it was circulated without the vocal it would be quite a massive club record on its own.

SONG OF THE DAY: Kerli – “The Lucky Ones”

Teaming up with producers SeventyEight (Jakob Hazell & Svente Halldin), Kerli has created an uplifting and emotional anthem that will lift everyone’s spirits. ? Writing a song that fits the modern structure of club music while expressing a positive message is a challenge, and with “The Lucky Ones,” Kerli succeeds by encouraging everyone to embrace challenges and harness energy to improve our lives.? Melding the production styles of Swedish House Mafia and Avicii, the track sounds as great on the radio as it will in the clubs.? Forthcoming club remixes by Morgan Page, Rich Morel, tyDi (who worked with Kerli on his just released new single “Glow in the Dark”), and Hector Fonseco will expand the reach, while the original extended version will work right out of the box.? Listening to the lyrics makes me wonder what the inspiration behind the song is- regardless, the message is universal – containing something that we can all reach out for. ?With two new Kerli songs in the span of a week, I would say that we are all pretty lucky.

SONG OF THE DAY: Swedish House Mafia ft John Martin – “Don’t You Worry Child”

Stadium house supergroup Swedish House Mafia unleash another amazing single from their album ‘One Night Stand.’ Featuring vocals from singer John Martin (who also sang “Save the World’ and wrote “Fade Into Darkness” for Avicii), the song is an emotional story about a man’s journey from a happy childhood through the challenges and losses of his life.? The chorus repeats the wise advice of his father, to see past the struggles and realize that a higher power has a plan for your future.? Maybe its a story the SHM trio relate to as they wonder what they will do next after their final tour, or a song for us to ponder as we struggle through difficult political and financial times. The anthemic feel of the chorus will no doubt be with us for a long time, as it will no doubt be used for a campaign of some sort in the future.? For now, just raise your hands in the air and sing along as your favorite DJ plays it in the club or you hear it on the radio.? These are the kind of uplifting lyrics that we all need to hear from time to time.
