SONG OF THE DAY: LA Riots ft Shiny Toy Guns ? ?Before You?

When a pairing works so well, it makes sense to do it again.? LA Riots did the sickening aggressive electro mix of “Waiting Alone” by Shiny Toy Guns, which energized the classic 4AD/Nettwerk sound of the original for big room dance floors.? Returning the favor, Shiny Toy Guns contributes the topline for “Before You,” the forthcoming single by LA Riots.? A seeming mesh of disparate elements (pretty keyboards, harsh electro, trap breakdown, glitchy noise) meld together to form a compelling track for Carah Faye’s hauntingly beautiful vocals.? Talking about pairs working well together, bag designer Lexdray features “Before You” in their advertisement for their Ibiza Pack (a luxury DJ bag) and hosts LA Riots’ latest mixed set as the “Welcome to Los Angeles” edition of their City Series. As you are enjoying the banging hour-long set which spans various EDM genres, pay close attention to the last track, starting about 55:30, for the full version of “Before You.”

INTERVIEW: Shiny Toy Guns (2013)

Shiny Toy Guns are back.? Not just back with new music, but back to their starting lineup with original singer Carah Faye Charnow who rejoins the group.?? Signed to a new label, Five Seven Music, they released the album III late last year, previewed by two uniquely different songs – “Waiting Alone” and “Fading Listening.”? Moving away from the rock feel of their second album Season of Poison, III is more of a electronic-leaning album which has been embraced by their fans.? I spoke to Carah Faye and Jeremy Dawson when they stopped in Nashville on their recent Tour Odyssey with Dirty Heads.

RS: How does it feel to be touring as a whole group again?
Jeremy: Great, we are a band and that?s normally how we tour, what do you mean?

RS: I mean with the original lineup all together.
Carah Faye: It?s awesome
Jeremy: It?s the only way to go.

RS: Carah, is there anything weird about singing the songs that Sisely originally sang?
Carah Faye: No not at all, I just make them my own.

SONG OF THE DAY: Shiny Toy Guns – “Waiting Alone”

Shiny Toy Guns are back. ?Not just back with new music, but back to their starting lineup with original singer Carah Faye Charnow who rejoins the group. ?”Waiting Alone,” the first taste of their forthcoming album III, is quite exceptional, it blends the electronic rock sound of their first singles with a taste of modern dance pop and electro. ?Thankfully there are no dub step breakdowns, with rather slight elements of classic 4AD/Nettwerk accenting the track instead. Perfect for radio as it is now, an additional aggressive electro mix would be great for the clubs. ?As wonderful as it is for Carah to be back, wouldn’t it be amazing if both she and Sisely Treasure shared ?the lead vocals, like a modern day Abba? ?Here’s hoping that Sisely will reunite with Kaz Gamble and give us a modern take on the much-loved Cooler Kids.
