By now you’ve seen the infamous “#Hashtag” skit from Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake- well, here comes the long-awaited dance track sampling it. Constructed by Dave Aude, the pounding electro jam features Luciana talking sarcastically in #hashtags with that vulgar and dry wit that makes her such a beloved part of clubland. Whether or not this is a response to the omnipresent “#Selfie” by Chainsmokers is unknown, but the satirical and rhythmic similarity makes it seem quite likely. Either way, “#Hashtag” will definitely be a fun track to drop on an unexpecting dancefloor right afterwards.

SONG OF THE DAY (SUNDAY FUNDAY):? Mary Kiani – Family
Disclaimer:? It is a safe bet that whenever certain singers release a new song, that I will jump up and down and scream like a fanboy.?? That list includes (but is not limited to): Tina Cousins, Luciana, Heather Small, Kerli,? Robyn, and Mary Kiani.? So imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon “Family,” which was posted on Mary Kiani’s Soundcloud nearly 8 months ago.? Built on the theme of finding your own family, the frolicking hands-in-the-air Hi-NRG electro track is a modernized take on the classic girl-twirl with the current style of chorus breakdown.? The mathematical approach to the lyrics had me flashing back to the top 10 pop hit “3 Is Family,” by the dearly departed Dana Dawson, but a bit more open-minded without the heteronormative delineation.? The idea of building your own family of those who love you has always been a foundation of the gay world, so this song is just another reason why we queers have always embraced Mary Kiani as our beloved big-voiced Scottish diva.
SONG OF THE DAY (SUNDAY?FUNDAY):? Bodybangers – “Pump Up the Jam”
I have to admit that I am huge fan of the German production duo Bodybangers.? From their work with Klaas (“I Like”) to their own tracks (the ‘get get down’ inspired “Tonight” and “Gimme More”), their aggressive electro beats sound great in a club and have catchy enough hooks to work in a commercial room.? Singer Victoria Kern sounds great on every record, channeling the Luciana vibe with the image of an FHM/Maxim model.?? If you know their previous songs, a cover of Technotronic’s “Pump Up the Jam” makes perfect sense.? The spoken vocals, originally by Ya Kid K, are perfectly interpreted by Victoria with a bit more of a sex kitten vibe, allowing her enunciation to bring forth the playful sexual subtext in the lyrics.? The seemingly low budget video is even an homage to the original Technotronic clip and fits the track perfectly.? Put it all together and you got a perfect?Sunday?Funday song to heat up the cold winter .
