INTERVIEW: Audien (2013)

Barely 21 years old, producer/DJ Audien is already a force to be reckoned with on the EDM scene. His first track “Rise and Shine” was picked up Ferry Corsten for release on his label.?? Support from Tiesto, Above & Beyond, Armin Van Buuren, and Hardwell quickly followed.? As one of the top 13 Freshman artists chosen by Elektro Magazine, he rocked their event at WMC this year and his touring schedule is quickly filling up. With solid productions and remixes, Audien definitely has a long and successful career ahead of him.?

DJ Ron Slomowicz: Where did the name Audien come from?
Audien: My friend came up with it; it is just a random word that stuck. I decided that I wanted to use it as an alias because I am not huge on my own name.

RS:? Rise and Shine was your first record that blew up, how did you get it to Ferry Corsten?
Audien: I sent it to the label and they saw something in it and picked it up and that was the very beginning.

RS: What did it mean to you to have Ferry Corsten play and endorse the record?
Audien: He is such an inspiration and it was a really big moment for me. He has always been an idol of mine and playing it was really big for me.

INTERVIEW: JES (2013)

Most of us were introduced to Jes as the singer of Motorcycle’s “As the Rush Comes.” In the past few years, she has worked with some of electronica’s finest ? Tiesto, BT, Paul Oakenfold, Ferry Corsten, Robbie Rivera? ? and with her distinctive voice, incredible songwriting, and emotionally powerful performances she has managed to set herself apart as a true artist.?? In addition to singing and writing, she also DJs live and does a weekly radio show (complete with special TaxiGirl mashups). ?Watch out for a new artist album from her later this year, along with several big time collaborations.

DJ Ron Slomowicz: You work with so many great producers, how do you meet everyone?
Jes: I think that when you have a bit of a track record you meet a lot of people and it is just about connecting with the ones that you have a spark with. I have been very lucky; I go to a lot of conventions and do a lot of shows. I just came back from Taiwan and I was in India for the first time, ?I do a lot of amazing shows with all the people that you would want to meet; you just need go right for them and meet them while you?re there.

SONG OF THE DAY: Bingo Players – “Out of My Mind”

As those of us in the US are being worked with two different vocal versions of their track “Rattle”? (Alexis Jordan’s “Acid Rain” and Far East Movement “Get Up”), ?the Bingo Players have continued releasing big room electro monsters all over Europe.? Two singles singles are popping up in the Euro countries – “Buzzcut” and “Out of My Mind.”? On “Out of My Mind,” the dirty electro beat drops down into a synth line which sounds like an ’80s track is about to come in (maybe “Cold as Ice”), but instead, a husky female vocal comes in with an original song. The keyboard line is strong and the clap brings up the energy until the frenzy kicks in but we are punked. Literally, the squelchy synth hook is so close to Ferry Corsten’s “Punk” that it feel like a sample – not that that is a bad thing, because the track is almost a classic. Overall the track is insanely strong, catchy, and will no doubt go over big on dance floors with the chance of crossover play. The video would make a great commercial if Lady Gaga decided to redesign a Viewmaster for club kids. One thing though, please, let’s stop with the masks on DJs- on Daft Punk and DJs from Mars it’s cute and ironic.? With this new breed of Cazzette and Bingo Players doing it, it seems about as fresh as using a 3 or $ in your DJ name (or using a # in your song title).
