SONG OF THE DAY: Planet of Sound – We Are Together

Here’s one of those leftfield tracks that has been around for a few months and keeps popping up in different places.? “We Are Together” is a mix of progressive and indie dance with random elements coming in throughout the track – whistling, guitar line, effected baby voices, sparse keyboard stabs.? It isn’t a peak hour club banger but more a of a listening track- like those concept albums that progressive rock bands made in the ’70s.? Actually, it has a similar vibe to the progressive track “Bullit” by Watermat that we wrote up last week.? There is definitely a rock influence, but rather than aggressive it is much more mellow and hazed out.? With all the talk of the big EDM tracks sounding the same, it’s starting to look like progressive is going to be the next sound to filter up after the nu-House.? Actually, “We Are Together” could be seen as a track that could bridge the mellower EDM world with the rock world.? One thing for sure, after the first listen it is quite addictive and you will probably find yourself whistling along. For club consumption, there are nu-Disco and Deep House mixes by Jody Wisternoff, HOSH, and Piemont.

SONG OF THE DAY: Demid Rezin & Paula P’Cay – Show Me

Listening to new tracks everyday, it is easy to become blas? and just say that it’s all starting to sound the same. Looking for a song that stands out can be quite a challenge sometimes. “Show Me” sounds actually a bit retro, with the feel of a late 2000’s Fedde Le Grand track – the bouncy electro house of “Scared of Me” or “Let Me Think About It.” The addition of a proggy piano line gives it a bit of a fresh twist, and the lyrics by German singer Paula P’cay make it memorable with the way you can easily sing along. It may not break any new ground in the EDM world, but it is catchy and will work on dancefloors. The video is definitely worth watching, as it feels like an Ylvis or Swedish Techno Society spoof of typical dance music clips.

SONG OF THE DAY (SUNDAY FUNDAY): Laughing Boy – Love Like Sunshine

How can a song by an artist called Laughing Boy NOT be perfect for Sunday Funday? “Love Like Sunshine” is a mashup of Jessie J’s “Domino” and an effected male vocal singing a ’60s-sounding guitar-pop song. On first listen, it is so strange that it catches your attention and the hooks just get so infested in your mind that you can’t help but sing along. While it isn’t brand new, it was originally leaked on YouTube in January of last year, a set of varied remixes was recently released (drum and bass, big room edm, nu-house) and it’s gaining buzz in the UK. It could easily become a leftfield novelty hit for the summer. The question is – who is the Laughing Boy? It could be anyone- he is described as a “reluctant superstar,” but some possibilities floating around online are reality TV star Chico, comedian Jamie Howard, Czech trance DJ Joe Cormack, and even Boy George. The person behind the record really doesn’t matter, so just take a listen and sing along to the fun mashup, which will keep a smile on your face all summer long.
