SONG OF THE DAY: Sebastian Ingrosso & Tommy Trash ft John Martin – “Reload”

With Swedish House Mafia disbanding after their massively successful odyssey as a trio, it kind of makes you wonder what the single heir apparent to their global hit “Don’t You Worry Child” will be. ?First out of gate is “Reload” from Sebastian Ingrosso.? Teaming up with Australian Tommy Trash,? they enlisted the help of DYWC vocalist John Martin to add a topline over their Beatport chart topping “Reload.” As an instrumental, “Reload” was a summer festival favorite with its dynamic mood changes and emotional dropout.? It could easily be lumped in with the countless progressive/electro/stadium house tracks out there, yet something about the chord structures make it stand out.? John Martin’s lyrics and vocal performance elevate the track to a universal song about the uplifting nature of love and music, yet some of the lyrics (“Sending you far away,” “don’t have to be afraid”)? make you wonder if it’s also meant as consolation to Sebastian about the breakup.

SONG OF THE DAY: Jewel – “Two Hearts Breaking (Remixes)”

Singer/songwriter Jewel is no stranger to dancefloors having had three consecutive singles (“Serve the Ego,” “Intuition,” and “Stand”) top the club chart.? So it comes as little surprise that her Greatest Hits Remixed CD would feature club interpretations of her new single “Two Hearts Breaking.” Originally a country-tinged guitar-based song with dance-pop elements (like a more mature Taylor Swift), the lyrics translate well for the dancefloor in the hands of Timothy Allen & Mark Loverush (energetic progressive and electro hybrid), Andi Durrant & Steve More (Avicii-esque stadium house floorfiller), and Bimbo Jones (a modern take on Hi-NRG). ?With such strong remixes, could “Two Hearts Breaking” be her fourth record to top the club chart?

SONG OF THE DAY: Peking Duk vs iSH – “The Way You Are”

Released back in December, “The Way You Are” by Peking Duk has become quite the hipster club hit.? With nods to Duck sauce (not just the name), ’50s/’60s rockabilly, Spankox, and ‘I Created Disco’-era Calvin Harris, the incessantly catchy cut-up vocal track topped the Australian club chart and has been rumbling around the world. (If I had a dollar for every time I heard it during WMC). The track is so memorable that it was only a matter of time until a full vocal version was done for mainstream consumption.? Stepping up to the plate is Canadian singer/songwriter/actor Ish, who adds a playfully sexy topline rap with a bit of tongue-in-cheek swagger.? The flow is smooth and he sings just as well.? This is one of those rare occasions when the pop version manages to keep the vibe of the original while elevating it to a bigger audience. I am sure Pitbull is out there kicking himself for not jumping on this track first.
