SONG OF THE DAY: Peking Duk vs iSH – “The Way You Are”

Released back in December, “The Way You Are” by Peking Duk has become quite the hipster club hit.? With nods to Duck sauce (not just the name), ’50s/’60s rockabilly, Spankox, and ‘I Created Disco’-era Calvin Harris, the incessantly catchy cut-up vocal track topped the Australian club chart and has been rumbling around the world. (If I had a dollar for every time I heard it during WMC). The track is so memorable that it was only a matter of time until a full vocal version was done for mainstream consumption.? Stepping up to the plate is Canadian singer/songwriter/actor Ish, who adds a playfully sexy topline rap with a bit of tongue-in-cheek swagger.? The flow is smooth and he sings just as well.? This is one of those rare occasions when the pop version manages to keep the vibe of the original while elevating it to a bigger audience. I am sure Pitbull is out there kicking himself for not jumping on this track first.
