SONG OF THE DAY (SUNDAY FUNDAY):?? Brielle – “Catch a Star For You”

Dancey europop always works for Sunday Funday.? The best way to describe Brielle is probably as a Scandinavian cross between Inna and Alexandra Stan.? The slow to fast intro pulls you in (and would sound great on the radio) with Brielle’s polished pop voice singing like a 2013 take of Fragma.? The production sounds like a poppier version of a Calvin Harris with an insanely polished sugary feel.? The vocal chants and hooks are so catchy that you can’t help but sing-along by the time the second chorus comes in.? For a Sunday Funday singalong pop song, you can’t do much better than “Catch a Star For You.”

SONG OF THE DAY:? Clara Lofaro “Born to Love You”

I get sent a lot of music to listen to, and sometimes I just put tracks in a folder on random play as background music to see what grabs me.? When I first heard “Born to Love You,” I thought it was cool that Joss Stone had finally gotten a club mix. To my surprise, it wasn’t Joss singing, but rather singer/songwriter Clara Lofaro, with a multilayered soulful delivery that expressed desire with a bit of a pining rasp.? Chris Cox’s remix is one that kind of defies classification – it’s not exactly electro, or tribal, or stadium, or commercial- but more a subtle combination of all of those things.? “Born to Love You” and the remix sound like nothing else out there right now, and as such it might not grab you on first listen.? Put it on as background music and before you know it, you will be singing along…

SONG OF THE DAY: The Killers “Shot at the Night (Cazzette Remix)” / “When You Were Young (Calvin Harris)”

The Killers have never been afraid of clubland, and as an electronic-driven rock band has had their tracks remixed by everyone from Madeon, Stuart Price, Josh Harris, Ferry Corsten, Armin van Buuren, Pet Shop Boys, and Steve Aoki.?Gearing up for the release of their Greatest Hits compilation ‘Direct Hits,’ both their current single “Shot at The Night” and their 2006 single “When You Were Young” get the remix treatment.? In the hands of Cazzette, the m83-produced? “Shot at the Night” transforms from downbeat synth pop to an edgier electro track with ELO-ish elements and a bit of a singalong Mika/Scissor Sisters feel.?? Calvin Harris transforms the rootsy rock of “When You Were Young” to a big room stadium house monster. With all the great remixes that the Killers have released over the years, a greatest remixes album to accompany ‘Direct Hits’ seems like a no brainer.
