SONG OF THE DAY: Marina and the Diamonds – “Primadonna” (New Video)

Marina is hit and miss. Some of her tracks, like “Shampain” and “Hollywood” were incredibly catchy, while other tracks failed to grab audiences. The Greek singer’s voice can sometimes cause a disconnect, but in cases like the aforementioned “Shampain”, the synthpop production and her voice combined in alarmingly entrancing similarities to Annie Lennox. “Primadonna” is the 4th part of an effort to establish Marina’s character, Electra Heart (also the name of her sophomore album). It also serves as the lead single from the album. The music is fun and the lyrics are entertaining, so there’s a chance this new album will showcase a more glittery, fluffy side to Marina, thus getting her music out to more people. With the hot remix by Benny Benassi, we’ve been enjoying this track immensely since it was released back in March. A new video featuring the finest of NYC clubland came across our email today and we thought it was worth sharing.

SONG OF THE DAY: Cyndi Lauper – “Sex is in the Heel”

Gotta love it when a talent like Cyndi Lauper gets involved in Broadway. As one of the musical writers for the Kinky Boots musical rendition, Lauper embarks on this new frontier with the release of the song, “The Sex Is In The Heel” from the show. The extended version of the track packs a punch, and with remixes from Morel, RLP, Danny Verde, Honey Dijon, and Jochen Simms already released to club DJs, Lauper is looking to make a splash in clubland. The track isn’t officially released until July 17th, so until then you’ll have to cool your heels with the mixes until the original version finds it’s way onto your personal media device.

SONG OF THE DAY: Andain – “Turn Up the Sound”

Andain, the team of vocalist Mavie Marcos and producer Josh Gabriel, achieved international success with the gorgeous and epic trance track “Beautful Things.” After a hiatus, they reunited last year to release “Promises,” which was nominated for two International Dance Music Awards, and “Much Too Much.” In its original Gabriel and Dresden remix, the new single “Turn Up the Sound” is uplifting and energetic vocal trance bordering on commercial without ever going cheesy. A full on prime time big room club track with gorgeous vocals and epic production, it is reminiscent of the massive G&D mix of “Beautiful Things.” The remix package is solid with a mellower trancey take from Xtigma, a dubstep/electro hybrid from Francis Preve and a more progressive rub from TyDi. If you like your trance with vocals, Andain’s “Turn Up the Sound” should be on the top of your playlist.
