SONG OF THE DAY: Susana & Ernesto vs Bastian with Wezz Devall – “Brave”

You have to respect those in the EDM community for embracing new young talent who work as mentors. At the young age of 23, Wessel Grift (aka Wezz Devall) has already released ten records including collaborations with W&W and also a solid remix of Cosmic Gate’s “Perfect Stranger.” He?s teamed up with Ernesto & Bastian and they’ve produced an incredibly strong track to start off Susana’s forthcoming second album. The track itself is quite dynamic with big room energy that drops down into an almost atmospheric break. A pretty buildup starting out of the drop turns dramatic and ends with a climactic pause until the beat returns full throttle. Susana’s vocals are strong yet plaintive as she wonders if she is strong enough to fall in love. “Brave? superbly fuses progressive sounds with a pop feel that will sound massive in clubs and even better on radio.

SONG OF THE DAY: Andain – “Turn Up the Sound”

Andain, the team of vocalist Mavie Marcos and producer Josh Gabriel, achieved international success with the gorgeous and epic trance track “Beautful Things.” After a hiatus, they reunited last year to release “Promises,” which was nominated for two International Dance Music Awards, and “Much Too Much.” In its original Gabriel and Dresden remix, the new single “Turn Up the Sound” is uplifting and energetic vocal trance bordering on commercial without ever going cheesy. A full on prime time big room club track with gorgeous vocals and epic production, it is reminiscent of the massive G&D mix of “Beautiful Things.” The remix package is solid with a mellower trancey take from Xtigma, a dubstep/electro hybrid from Francis Preve and a more progressive rub from TyDi. If you like your trance with vocals, Andain’s “Turn Up the Sound” should be on the top of your playlist.

SONG OF THE DAY: Paloma Faith – “Picking Up The Pieces”

As the lead single to Paloma’s recent release, Fall to Grace, “Picking Up The Pieces” has outperformed every single Paloma Faith song to date. Is that because of Paloma’s honeyed voice with that hint of rasp, suggesting brutal vulnerability? Is it due to the insistent yet subtle beat that holds up the strumming and gorgeous instrumentation? Are the lyrics hauntingly painful and relatable enough to yield this sort of success? Are these things that lead to Paloma perhaps having a “Rolling In The Deep” on her hands? Whatever the case, Paloma Faith has a knockout on her hands here, and under the hands of Moto Blanco, turn into a certifiable club stomper. Pick your format, play it out, and be happy that her pain has brought such beauty.
