A guy wearing a monkey mask making ’90s-sounding electronic dance music.? Honestly, it took a few listens to convince me that this was a serious project and not just some spoof of Daft Punk thrown out there as a joke.? Could it be “Kid” Alex (aka Boyz “Noize”) having a laugh?? Was the debut track “Eisbaer” supposed to have a creepy Otto Von Wernherr vibe?? Listening to the EP, the music definitely fits the current ’90s flashback trend with “KDNZ” sounding like an 808 State/Daft Punk minimal/downbeat techno hybrid.? The spoken vocals of “Signs” beg the satire question, giving it a bit of an indulgent/out there Einsturzende Neubauten feel over ’90s techno beats and an oddly-fitting dubstep breakdown.? While this really isn’t music for dancing, it’s definitely an interesting listen and would be cool chillout music for Dieter from Sprockets’ afterparty.
