SONG OF THE DAY: Felix Cartal ft Koko LaRoo – “Young Love”

To many people, pop is a bad word.? Just because something is enjoyed by the masses doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s low quality or dumbed down, though.? This is the probably the logic behind the efforts of Canadian producer Felix Cartal to rebrand EDM from electronic dance music to everybody dance music.? That’s what he brings on his new single “Young Love,” a summertime anthem with something for everyone – electro beats, glitchy vocal effects, classic house piano, catchy hooks, and a singalong chorus.?? Vocalist Koko LaRoo (aka Kandace Ferrel, who sang on the Richard Dinsdale/Alex Kenji collaboration Songs in the Sky) sounds like the offspring of Dragonette singer Martina and Bright Lights with a perfect of airy and raspy tones to her voice.? “Young Love” is a great pop song that could easily crossover, especially with the recent successes of Icona Pop and Krewella.? The video furthers the summer appeal, capturing a battle between guys and gals with sneak attacks of water balloons and water guns.? Like the song, it’s all in good fun and its great to see both people of both genders as active participants and not just as sexual objects to be ogled.??

INTERVIEW: Nari and Milani (2013)

When you talk to an Italian DJ/producer, you can feel their passion and love for the music.? Italian duo Antonio Romeo and Maurizio Zoffoli started working together in 1996 under different pseudonyms.? Back in 2003, they launched the Nari and Milani name and have achieved success with hit singles (“Let it Rain” and “I Got You”), remixes, and a solid DJ touring schedule.? Their weekly radio program “I’ll House You” is available on their Soundcloud page and is definitely worth subscribing to.

RS: How did the two of you meet up?
Nari: We met at a radio show, Ronni was a host and so was I. We both lived in the same city and had the same passion for music. Years later we found that we worked well together and decided to create and produce music.

RS: You worked with R3hab and MYNC on the new “Miami” track, how did that come about?
Nari: At the time that we decided to make the track we were in Europe, R3hab was on tour in Australia, and MYNC was on tour in America so we connected on Skype. We made the track, MYNC made the melody, and R3hab rebuilt the track and it was finished in 21 days.

SONG OF THE DAY: Icona Pop – “Girlfriend”

By: Ben Norman

“I don’t care, I like it!” the two Swedish popstresses of Icona Pop sang into the ether, catapulting a simple electronic dance track into the mainstream. ?And now all eyes are on what they will do next. Their?debut EP, Iconic, had quite a few tracks worth looking into (like “Top Rated”), but their new single is what may very well continue their stomping domination across radio stations nationwide, and who knows, possibly the world… “Girlfriend” is the type of simplistic, sing-along jaunt that made Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl” so successful. ?It’s cute, it’s fun, it’s easy to remember, and it isn’t muddied with complexities like “melody” or “harmony.” ?Simple beats, simple synths, simple lyrics. ?Clearly, it’s going to be the summer anthem of 2013.
