INTERVIEW: John de Sohn (2012)

With strong dance pop (Abba, Ace of Base, Robyn) and influential producers (the Mafia trio, Max Martin, Alexander Bard), Sweden is well-known for a heritage of top-notch electronic dance music. The next Swedish producer to hear is Bj?rn Johnsson, aka John de Sohn.? Starting off playing with Mixxmeister before training as a DJ, he’s made the move to production with the debut single “Unleash My Love,” which went platinum and got major support from Tiesto. Now signed to Sony for the world, his new single with Andreas Moe, “Long Time,” is quickly getting support from radio and clubs everywhere. We spoke to him after the remixer panel at Promo Only Summer Sessions 2012 in Atlantic City.

Ron Slomowicz: Welcome to the US, is this your first time here in the United States?
John de Sohn: Thank you. No it isn?t, I have been here a couple of times before, but this is the first time doing promo work as an artist. I have been here as tourist, and also worked as a camp tennis trainer in North Carolina for a couple of months.

INTERVIEW: Meital Dohan (2012)

Meital Dohan is quite the renaissance woman, acting in theater, movie and tv productions (she is probably best known for the role of Yael Hoffman on Weeds.) Venturing into the music world, she is working on her debut album, tentatively titled “I’m in Hate With Love.” Based on the first two singles, “Yummy” and “On Ya,” Meital is definitely quite playful and loves her beats. Interviewing her at the Promo Only Summer Sessions in Atlantic City, I quickly realized that the quirkiness and fun you experience in her music and videos is a true reflection of her personality.

DJ Ron Slomowicz: You are working with Rami Afuni from LMFAO, how did the two of you meet up?
Meital: We were introduced by George Robertson who also works with LMFAO, he came up with ?Im Sexy And I Know It.? We had been co-writing together so he introduced me to Rami and he basically did the official track of ?Yummy? which actually started out as ?Yummy Boyz.?

American trance superstars – it has a nice ring, doesn’t it. Tritonal, the duo of Chad Cisneros and Dave Reed, are from Austin, Texas, and have risen quickly in the trance scene.? Early support from big names like Armin van Buuren, Above and Beyond, Ferry Corsten, and Markus Schulz helped propel them in the scene.? Their debut album ‘Piercing the Quiet,’ released in 2011, featured eight top 20 Beatport singles (five of which topped the Trance chart). ?A double-disc set of remixes, ‘Piercing the Quiet: Remixed,’ was released in September with rerubs by Beat Service, Super 8 & Tab, Seven Lions, Maor Levi, and others, as well as remixes by the duo themselves.? Listening to their tracks, it’s easy to see why they’ve developed such a massive legion of fans, who call themselves ‘Tritonians.’
Ron Slomowicz:? Were you guys DJs or producers first?
Chad Cisneros (Tritonal): Obviously producers, still to this day we consider ourselves producers who DJ.

RS: How did the two of you meet each other?
Dave Reed (Tritonal): An online dating service… Just kidding, we met online through forums discussing sound design techniques.
