SONG OF THE DAY: Chicane ft Duane Harden – “One More Time”

In 1999 and 2000, both Chicane and Duane Harden had major club hits but they are also two artists that you would never expect to collaborate. Chicane created epic gorgeous trance tracks like the chart topping “Don’t Give Up” (featuring Bryan Adams,) “Strong in Love” and “Saltwater.” Duane Harden is the soulful disco house singer/songwriters behind the classic “U Don’t Know Me” by Armand van Helden and “What You Need” with Powerhouse. Working together on “One More Time,” you can hear the two influencing each other. Chicane’s track is a bit funkier and harder than his classic sound (and more aggressive than his recent work with Ferry Corsten “One Thousand Suns.”) Duane’s vocals are as soulful as ever but silkier and prettier than anything else he’s ever done. While the pairing seems pretty random, the results are better than you would imagine. Thinking back to that same time period of dance music, I wonder how the random pairing of say Green Velvet and Tori Amos would turn out?

SONG OF THE DAY: Afrojack ft Spree Wilson – “The Spark”

When I first heard “The Spark,” my first thought was how amazing it was that Ab Soto was on his way to having a pop crossover hit!? Come to find out that it’s not the colorful rapper on vocals, but singer/songwriter Spree Wilson laying uplifting, inspirational verses over the energetic, yet subdued electro track. Guitar and stadium elements combine to make “The Spark” the most pop-leaning production in Afrojack’s canon.? With the right promotion, this feel good track could easily become this year’s “Firework.”
