It was only a matter of time until “a dollar makes me holla, honey boo boo child” ended up on a club record, and leave it to the fun-loving Aussie swing house duo Yolanda Be Cool to help us all jump the shark. For those living under a rock, Honey Boo Boo Child is the nickname of 6 year-old beauty queen Alana Thomson who was so popular on the TV show ‘Toddlers and Tiaras’ that she got her own spinoff. While said many times before, “a dollar makes me holla” coming from her mouth set off a meme that went viral. The track itself is a funky, swing house track that breaks down into “Final Countdown”-esque synths before reverting to the funky house beat. Those synths come back as part of the chorus, fitting surprisingly well. The duo of Nola Darling spit playful rap verses, like a modern day Salt ‘n Pepa. The mixes are all quite interesting for the sheer variety of sounds – downbeat dubstep (Nick Thayer), retro-electro (Victor Lassance), harder dub (Bling and Goldfish), dubstep (Trumpdisco), and urban (Oh Snap). If you were a fan of Yolanda Be Cool’s tracks with D-Cup “Me No Speak Americano” and Crystal Waters “Le Bump,” you should definitely check out “Change” for a fresh new flavor.
