SONG OF THE DAY: Otto Knows ? ?A Million Voices? (US Release)

Kudos to Universal for bringing one of the year’s biggest club records to the US. Yes, it’s “A Million Voices” by Otto Knows, you know, the “eh eh eh ah ah ah” song. The Swedish producer, best known for his remixes of Dada Life and Imogen Heap, constructed an epic-feeling track, similar in energy to the Dario G classic “Sunchyme,” using the simple and repetitive effected vocal loop of “eh eh eh, ah ah ah.” Sometimes something so simple is the most effective and the track has been massive all summer. You might also know the track from a cheeky bootleg version of it mashed with Afrojack’s “Can’t Stop.” Originally released on Ingrosso’s credible Refune label back in February, the track has been picked up by Universal for US release, so expect a massive commercial push as the club hit goes pop. I have a feeling that this track will end up on a bunch of commercials and movie soundtracks – or at least based on the new video, become a theme song for recycling and underground raves.

SONG OF THE DAY: The Chainsmokers ft Priyanka Chopra – “Erase”

Judging by their name and bio, it’s obvious that the The Chainsmokers don’t take themselves too seriously. Just some fun-loving guys, they make hard electro tracks with a pop vibe as if they were the offspring of R3hab (with the Chainsaw sound) and Jump Smokers (sharing a surname and jokey vibe). “Erase” is an aggressive, if not grating electro track, not dissimilar to R3hab’s chainsaw sound buoyed by Swedish House Mafia-esque synths in the breakdown. Seductive vocals by Bollywood superstar/Miss World Priyanka Chopra soften the track a bit, making it a tad more accessible while maintaining a properly aggressive feel. If hard electro isn’t your thing, check out the more AC-vibe rock mix by Samantha Ronson. The merging of NYC hipster models and a RedOne protege – this is definitely a track to expect some big things from.

With strong dance pop (Abba, Ace of Base, Robyn) and influential producers (the Mafia trio, Max Martin, Alexander Bard), Sweden is well-known for a heritage of top-notch electronic dance music. The next Swedish producer to hear is Bj?rn Johnsson, aka John de Sohn.? Starting off playing with Mixxmeister before training as a DJ, he’s made the move to production with the debut single “Unleash My Love,” which went platinum and got major support from Tiesto. Now signed to Sony for the world, his new single with Andreas Moe, “Long Time,” is quickly getting support from radio and clubs everywhere. We spoke to him after the remixer panel at Promo Only Summer Sessions 2012 in Atlantic City.

Ron Slomowicz: Welcome to the US, is this your first time here in the United States?
John de Sohn: Thank you. No it isn?t, I have been here a couple of times before, but this is the first time doing promo work as an artist. I have been here as tourist, and also worked as a camp tennis trainer in North Carolina for a couple of months.
