INTERVIEW: Richard Vission (2012)

As big name superstars rise and fall in the EDM world, there are few producers who stand the test of time – continuing to produce incredible music and support it with masterful DJ sets.? Richard Vission is the host of Power Tools, the longest running mixshow in the US.? In the 90s, he achieved success as part of the techno group The Movement and pop house group Pure Sugar.? Not only a remixer for the biggest artists (Madonna, Lady Gaga, Ace of Base, David Bowie, Korn), Richard also releases his club-banging original productions on his own label Solmatic.? The two are not mutually exclusive, however, as “I Like That,” his collaboration with Static Revenger and Luciana, started as an underground club track and exploded into a viral internet clip and international club smash.

DJ Ron Slomowicz: When you did the song ?I Like That,? did you have any idea that it would become so big?
Richard Vission: No, I actually never think about it becoming big, we just do the records so that we can play out. Honestly, it still boggles my mind that it went on the radio because the song has no chorus. It?s kind of weird when I think about it.

INTERVIEW: K-Klass (2012)

While techno/rave was one of the first genres that inspired me to follow EDM in the 90s, it was the happy house movement from the UK that really inspired me to start DJing. As easy as the alphabet, KLM, any release from K-Klass, Loveland, or M People would instantly light up my sets. So imagine the sheer delight last year at the Amsterdam Dance Event when I had the incredible honor of meeting K-Klass, producers of the house classics “Let Me Show You” and “Rhythm is a Mystery.” They recently played the thirtieth birthday party of legendary Manchester super club The Hacienda and continue to produce quality house music for their loyal fans and DJ following.

DJ Ron Slomowicz: K-Klass started back in the late eighties correct?
K-Klass: That?s right, we got together in 1989 but didn?t release our first record until 1990, although we were very much alive and running as a production outfit.

INTERVIEW: Emma Hewitt (2012)

Though she got her start making rock music as part of the band Missing Hours, Australian singer/songwriter Emma Hewitt has quickly ascended to the top of the trance world.? A progressive house track with Chris Lake introduced Emma to the EDM world and she was quickly embraced by masterful producers like Dash Berlin, Lange, Cosmic Gate and Ronski Speed.? While she is dubbed by many as the reigning queen of trance, Emma has stepped back and constructed an enchanting multiformat debut solo album called “Burn the Sky Down.”?? Her trance fans need not worry, though, as there are remixes coming for every song on the album.

Ron Slomowicz: How are you enjoying Mexico?
Emma Hewitt: It?s really great actually, we had the Dash Berlin show on Saturday night and their concert was sold out. The vibe was great and we filmed a video for their next single yesterday. It was interesting and a lot of fun.
