Beloved producer/remix duo Bimbo Jones officially launch their long-awaited second artist album ‘Go Naked’ with “I Found Out,” a modern version of the classic diva-done-wrong anthem. Over a frolicking electropop beat, British soul singer Beverley Knight (“Shoulda Woulda Coulda,” “Come As Your Are”) lets her former partner have it for all the ways she has been disrespected. Remixes by Sebastian Carter, Funky Junction & Ariano Kino, and Looney B take the track in various directions – nu-house, big room, old-school disco, harder electro – with the vocal always being the focus. Joining the previously released “Everything That I Got” (with Kristine W) and “See U Later/Questions” (with Ida Corr), “I Found Out” highlights the focus of their album – classically talented and big voices singing full-on songs over electro – something which is actually quite rare in the genre. With additional songs by Angie Brown, Blake Lewis, Debra Andrews, Sergio Mendes, and four powerhouse workouts by Katherine Ellis, ‘Go Naked’ is a must have for any lover of vocal dance music.

Am I the only one who thinks of Taylor Dayne’s classic anthem “Tell It To My Heart” when they hear that Passenger song “Let Her Go” on the radio? I was figuring that it was about time for someone to do a 2014 remix until I saw that Jason Walker had just finished his own version. It truly takes a lot of balls to cover “Tell It To My Heart,” especially since Taylor has such a distinctive and strong voice- but just like he did with Kristine W’s “Sweet Mercy Me,” Jason proves that he is just the man for the job. Jason’s voice is almost otherworldly with the way he can move from the high to low parts effortlessly. Produced by Bimbo Jones, Jason’s version is respectful of the original while he is able to inject a lot of emotion to give it his own fresh take. While the Eivissa mix is quite solid, I wonder if the Bimbo Jones guys could do a mix similar in style to their epic Zedd “Stay the Night” remix – that would truly be insane.

When you’ve got a signature, it’s best to stick with it. I can pretty much write the same review I did of Gala’s last single “Lose Yourself in Me” for her new single “Taste of Me.” As in “the song has all of the elements of classic Gala – that unique, tough-but-sweet voice, intelligent lyrics written above the level of most dance pop, and a catchy, repeated chorus hook.” That’s not to say the two songs are overly similar – they aren’t – but they are both high-quality dance pop. What strikes me this time around is how fans of the recent work of fellow ’90s europop singer Robyn should be obsessed with Gala as well. While they wait for new material for from the blonde Swede, they can catch a similar vibe of “Call Your Girlfriend” both in lyrical (figuratively marking their romantic territory) and visual (single take video with intense choreography) content. One major improvement from the last single is the highly impressive roster of remixers who ALL turn in strong takes – Starkillers, Hoxton Whores, Bimbo Jones, and Almighty. Each crew hit a different sound, making it perfect for just about any club DJ to work into their primetime sets. Yes, I am obviously a Gala fan and after you listen to “Taste of Me,” I bet you will be also.
